Thanks for the advice John, and yes I thought it would be a good idea to get a new set of burrs- nothing as good as having something new to compare against.
Your comment pertaining tot a good screwdriver is also valid- how many people spend a lot of money on good equipment and when they have to service them use, inferior tools, and cant understand why things go wrong??

I am contemplating the finger guard mod-  I am just not sure if its function is only to act as a guard- does it not assist with th flow of beans into the grinding burrs as well.  If it is just for protection, then it can go, otherwise may need to increase the height.

    Cheers
Trust me Ozzie, dump it, its just a pain in the rear end, have been running mine for 8 years without the guard, of course store it in a safe place so you can replace it if you decide to sell/upgrade.

      Yep.. A good flat driver...

I thought I had burr issues and got a new set... two years on, they are still in the packet...

1: I give them a good clean every so often.... As in a wash..

2: If they will scratch or grab ya finger nail - check with ya finger and or finger nail like you would a knife blade... Then they are OK...

I have usualy found that it has been a bad batch of beans and be it stale or moisture or a bad roast... The beans are a pain when they get a bit soft... They rip and not grind.

Replaced mine about 12 months ago after 7 years of use, made a world of difference, as you would expect. ;D

Dont know how the Mods will react to a link to another site (if it contravenes rules just delete it) this is a pretty good illustrated guide to cleaning a Rocky grinder, picture is worth a thousand words.

How to links in most cases are OK... But does depend on the hosting site :-)

Thus I tend to refrence those that support and or belong to CS.. But yes a picture can tell a 1000 words.

            i.e. http://home.surewest.net/frcn/Coffee/HowToRocky.html

As his site is very much a personal journy and Randy is a member and posts on CS.

Thanks for clarification, I can understand your position.

              Cheers,

              Jon.
