  • Measured Grinder less than $800 exists?

Just wondering, can you get a MACAP-M4D/Mazzer-Electronic style "measured dose" grinder for less than $800?  Either by weight or by time.

Anybody know of any models OTTOYH?

The Compak K3 Touch (doserless) has adjustable timed doses straight into your portafilter.

I have been advised (by a sponsor who will remain nameless :-X), that the timer function on the K3T is not very good, and that most users dont bother with it after a while. I would be happy for actual users to advise otherwise?..

Its not perfect by any means... but I use it. The amount of coffee it doses in the time set depends on a number of things; like the grind size, beans used, humidity etc. but I find it does dose a similar amount with each use. If your after the perfect amount each time with no waste, then its not for you. But if you like to overdose your PF, then sweep with a dosing tool, it can be handy.

The location of the time adjuster is probably the biggest flaw with the feature though.

Another option is to run a standard grinder on a darkroom timer.Ive just started using one with my super jolly.I picked up one on the local auction site for $15.You just press a button and the grinder runs for a pre-set time.Im loving it and cant believe i didnt get round to it sooner! The dose variation is very small, and certainly smaller than i was previously getting using the measuring scoop.

On paper the Mahlkonig Vario seems to fit into this category (I am waiting confirmation on price, but I read it may be ~$700).

I have found a number of reviews, but they are pretty mixed. Is there anyone out there who has been using this grinder for a reasonable amount of time that can provide some feedback?

Ive been trying to find a stockist of these for a while now. From what ive heard there were some early releases of the 240v versions with bad static problems and further releases were delayed.A revised 240v version is supposed to be available in europe now or very soon.Grind quality is supposed to be very good, i just cant bring myself to like the looks of it.

So with the current exchange rate, this should now be more like AU$500??  If only...
