John, I saw a huge pile of them in Mecca when I was there 2 weeks ago. Around $70 IIRC

          Re: Hario Skerton

          Hi John,

I found the kyocera quite dissappointing for brewed coffee; there seemed to be a lot of fines and the cup struck me as quite bitter. I had a very quick look at the hario and it looked like it might be a little better, but still definitely looked to have a bit of a problem to me at coarse grind settings.

Using the Kyocera put me on to a trick that is fairly good, though; I have been sieving my grinds through a fairly fine tamis to get rid of the particles that are too fine. This results in a grind that probably doesnt allow as much extraction and, hence, suffers a bit from lack of complexity in brewing. However, the sieved grind is very resistant to overextraction, so you can remedy this somewhat by extracting for a longer time.

Like people have said, Mecca will have them in Sydney, St Ali has them in Melbourne. The Kyocera grinder had a nicer profile and was a bit easier to use, so Id be quite interested in trying out the mini hario grinder as opposed to the skerton.

          Cheers,
          Luca

thanks TG, would love to take you up on that

luca - have you seen all 3 hario grinders? theres a box grinder too which looks like it may be japan-only.
