I havent been able to make sense of the conical/\/flat burr debate yet.
There are pros and cons on both sides.

Toss in your pallet, your wallet and what you expect to be in the cup = :-/

Thus if ya hight restriction is that critical and ya only want to be a snob..

The choice would come back to Supplier, Looks and Location....

Further more with out knowing much more info on the beans your using and the actual Coffee machine..... It does not allow this data to be added to allow a fully informed decision to be made.

Yes.... Always get the best grinder you can... But there are always the odd condition that has to be considered.

    Hello all,

looks like I am starting a trend for a product I dont sell (yet).

In any case as I have sold all the other grinders mentioned in this thread at one time or other, and have my own mignon, I will only be telling you the truth when I advise the following:

The Lux, Isomac and Imini are all internally, the same grinder. The difference is in the exterior, and in the individual brands method of adjustment provided at the top of their individual body.

WRT the never ending conical VS flat debate. There is more to a grinder than the type of grinding burrs fitted.

Suffice to say in this case, mignon is a flat plate grinder but is far superior (in my opinion) in every way to the others mentioned  except someone I think mentioned the M4D....in which case if it werent for the M4Ds larger size I would go for that, also a flat plate grinder).

The mignion also costs a fair bit more percentage wise than the three conicals mentioned here. Its method of adjustment is far superior.

In doing your research re mignon, make sure the one pictured is actually available here with the small hopper. Otherwise the tall hopper will blow out your height restriction.

I havent been able to make sense of the conical/\/flat burr debate yet... Anyone able to offer more advice? Now that the Ascaso is in the mix is the Mignon still the most appropriate?

Hate to make it harder for you but Ive just been looking at the Ascaso i-mini which is only 310H.
    http://www.ascaso.com/2010/cafe/eng/imini.html

Seen it for $350 for the i-2 conical version, cant seem to find the i-1 flat burr version. It has the option of timed grind but I dont see that knob in any of the pics I saw.
Im also looking and cant decide which grinder I want although i dont (currently) have a height restriction, just a budgetary one :-/

    Of those three mate,

Itd be no contest with the "Mignon Istantaneo". Definitely a class above the others "on paper" and what Attilio has said about them. Ive only ever owned and used the "Lux" and found it to be a challenging grinder to use for espresso. If you could find one with an infinite grind adjustment mechanism rather than the stepped that seems to be standard, it would probably be OK. Still think the Mignon would be the better option though....

Thanks for all your advice to date everyone.  I didnt think making this decision was going to be so hard...

So far I think Ive narrowed it down to the below options?  Are there any others I should be considering?

    1. NEMOX Caffe Lux
    2. Mignon Istantaneo
    3. Isomac Professionale

Will I actually notice the difference between these products?

The mazzer mini is also around 30 cm without the hopper, though I use a cut off cup to give it an extra 5 cm or so.

    Mal has suggested the M4D
Are you sure, KK? The link in Mals post goes to the Cunill Tranquillo in the grinder reviews thread - this is somewhat larger than the M4D, I think?
    Maybe Mal could clarify?

    Mal has suggested the M4D
The original hopper can always be removed and stored
A smaller one can be easily made to suit your needs

This grinder might also be a possibility
Unfortunately too tall... The 32.5cm is the maximum. I like the idea of a better grinder though...

Its a little taller than your spec but a lot closer to the performance of a Mazzer Mini than the Lux is....
