Re: Rocky will not grind fine enough...HELP!!!
Well update...
Simply Coffee sussed it in the end. They ended up needing to put a shim or something somewhere I was in a hurry so didnt get exactly where or what a shim was. I will have a look next time I pull it apart to clean it. But its now grinding happily away. Still on a very low number (2 or 3) but thats about what it has been its whole life.
So a BIG thanks to Simply Coffee, very helpful and friendly service.
Cheers
Pete

Have a yarn to Basil at Coffee Craft about it, very helpful guy.Originally posted by 4A75736E7B1A0 link=1261628467/11#11 date=1261999344ok AM...
So from what I can figure you pulled it apart and gave it a thorough clean (done), used 1 layer of thread tape (done), added the spacers to the finger guard (done) and finally added the stepless mod with the piping (havent done yet).
So I am still at a loss. When I get back from Perth I will take it to CoffeeCraft (I think thats where Simply Coffee was going to take it anyway) and see what they can come up with. It is getting very frustrating.
Thanks!

Re: Rocky will not grind fine enough...HELP!!!
Will be working on CSs unit in about 20min.. I will let CS post the outcome...Originally posted by 0B34322F3A5B0 link=1261628467/5#5 date=1261817198Hi all,
I only buy fresh beans from The Coffee Barun that are less than 1 week old since roasting, so that isnt the problem.
The burs sharpness isnt the problem as the old set and this set do exactly the same thing.
I tried pulling everything apart and thoroughly cleaning everything with both the old and new burs so there was nothing (i.e. old grinds) that could be causing it not to sit level.
But yeah I agree all I can think of is that they arent sitting level but I couldnt see anything that could possibly cause that and neither could Simply Coffee. I can only think that maybe the driving mechanism (shaft) etc may be a little warped...

Re: Rocky will not grind fine enough...HELP!!!
Cant for the life of me imagine what the problem could be, have had a Rocky for over 8 years, its a pretty simple machine, and is easy to work on.
Take it into the guys at www.coffeecraft.com.au on South road theyll sort it out for you.

Hi Poita, All
Sounds like were encountering similar issues (see my seperate thread here: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1261691767).
Just wanted to assure you that there are others out there that feel your pain.
Will let you know if I make any progress...

Re: Rocky will not grind fine enough...HELP!!!
Have found that previously as well... It only takes a few grains and then you will get a slight chirp as the high spots rum / mesh.... But as it is not level... Ya get the issue with grind size and different sizes in the grind..Originally posted by 0F50485E555E525B5B5858505C533D0 link=1261628467/2#2 date=1261630689Sounds to me like one of the burrs is not level- perhaps with debris underneath it.
Try removing them, cleaning everything and reinstalling. If thats fails and assuming your coffee is freh and your are dosing appropriately, Id be thinking dud burrs.
Good luck

The seats of the burrs and carriers, MUST be totally clean...

Rocky will not grind fine enough...HELP!!!
Hi all,
I have had my Rocky grinder for just over a year now and it has been fantastic.
Recently though it would not grind fine enough. I could even take it down so you could just hear the burrs touching and it would still come out too coarse (60ml shot in 10 seconds on a Silvia).
Gave it to Simply Coffee (where I got it from) and they have spend a few hours with 2 techs and a bucket load of coffee and cannot figure out why on earth it is doing this. I just put new burrs in and it made no difference.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong???? I do not really like the idea of another few hundred on a new grinder...
Cheers
