Hi CSers,
Ive been having dramas with my Rocky in old Miss Lucy since I cleaned it. AngerManagement helped me out during his visit a few weeks ago and we could only get a 60ml in 30sec (double basket) by grinding +1 above zero which was better than my 200ml gushers. Since his visit I have played with the grinder numerous times and found the grinder wasnt grinding totally flat with the bottom burr (used a marker pen) so I moved the burr around a bit to try and get a better grind without much success because the high spot just kept moving. Im trying to keep my dose, tamp etc the same and change the grind so that ultimatly I can pour a ristretto or vary the grind for different beans.
Just about to give us, and today I ran out of fresh beans so I pulled out some that were roasted on 12/12/09 (so 19 days old). Previously I had been using fresher beans around the 5-10 days mark and with the older beans I ground at the same setting of +1 from zero and got 15 mls from a double basket. Im now getting 60mls from a double at about 4-5 from zero which is better because I can lower the grind to pour a ristretto at last.
So after pulling out my hair for the past month in frustrution Im left thinking... am I using beans that are too fresh? Or does the grinder sound like it needs looked at?
AngerM has generously said he would look at my grinder for me again but after todays results Im scratching my head thinking has my fiddling solved the problem, are the beans a problem or am I the problem and I should have a lie down
Its a 4 hour round trip to see AM and I really dont know if I should waste his or my time if Im getting results like today...
PS Thanks for listening to my ranting.
