Hi there, I am new to coffee making and just bought a Sunbeam EM3600 Cafe Espresso machine ($160) for home use (1-3 coffees a day). We were looking at purchasing a low end grinders to accompany it. I have read reviews which state that many of these cant grind fine enough for espresso and was wondering if these were from people with more expensive machines and that maybe they would be fine for my machine?? The grinders I was looking at are Delonghi KG100, Breville Bar Aroma BCG450 and Sunbeam EM0480. What are your thoughts? Thankyou.

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
The 480/450 can be a great grinder for the price point.
They can have issues so read up a bit on them, but from what I have found Sunbeam are usually pretty good support wise and depending on where you purchase it they might just do a straight swap if something happens.
It can grind you pretty much what you want and can be modded if you want later on.
As mentioned above it is pretty much the entry/min level grinder but if thats all you can afford at the time then it is fantastic value. Save up later for the upgrade down the track - I am!

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
Thanks for all your replies. It looks as if the Sunbeams are the way to go! I found out my machine has got pressurised filter baskets. Does this change anyones mind or still dead set on the Sunbeams? Thanks for your help!

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
I have the em0480 - happy with it. my first one was faulty (micro switch issue) but was replaced with no hassle at all and the new units great.
I currently have a pressurised basket in my breville machine but have ordered replacement which arrives in the next few days.

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
Order a replacement, Im sure one of the sponsors should have something if not a search on here should bring something up.
Before I was forced to upgrade to the 6910 I had the sunbeam 2300 and was going to buy a replacement basket for it, luckily it decided to die on me and I had money sitting there to buy the new machine (the garden shed now has to wait...)

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
Yes, you should get unpressurised basket. If you keep using the pressurised ones, you wont find much difference in the cup whether youre using any of those 3 grinders, or stale supermarket beans. Unpressurised + em480 is the way to go imo!

Re: Low end conical burr grinders
Throw the pressurised baskets in the bin where they belong, and source an unpressurised basket.
Pressurised baskets are i suspect the invention of these made in china manufacturers and as others have said guarantee you consistently terrible coffee, instead of occasionally excellent coffee with the unpressurised basket, appropriate grind/tamp and freshly roasted beans from a local roaster.

. Is there any hope of fixing things like the useful page on the 480 or do I have to be really, really nice to my hubby for a while
