Some of you may not have caught the advice for my substandard EM430 problem (Til I get my 480) on another forum. It is a gem. I ground a second grind in my mortar and pestle for just a few minutes after the substandard 430 grind. Thanks Andy-Gadget. Coffee pour pressure perfect. Resulting taste better than perfect. ;D

But I was going to try both ways less and more so thank you for steering me in the right direction first. I just have to wait for my birthday for the 480. I have talked about nothing else since joining coffeesnobs.
Use a mortar and pestle after grinding in the EM430 to make it finer
Its a thousands of years old method that still works

Re: Grind not fine enough
Err I think the EM0430 is a bit below what some may think..Originally posted by 57627577477F627D717C74100 link=1268707990/4#4 date=1268727130OK, so now we know the 430 wont grind fine enough for your machine.
I recommend you call Sunbeam and ask them what to do. (Their more expensive grinders--the 450 and 480 -- have standard modifications to fix this problem.)
Greg
Even on the Sunbeam product page they only recommend it for the:
Café Espresso™ - EM3600
Café Latte™ - EM5600
Intuitive™ Digital - EM8910
Thus it may suite teh EM6910 but only if your using pressurised baskets..

Re: Grind not fine enough
Little section in the Victorian Consumer affairs Victoria act :
A guarantee policy is something you give to your customers to promote good relations, but whether you are a manufacturer, retailer or repairer you have certain obligations when setting warranty conditions.
Ensure that the product:
* is suitable for the purpose for which it is sold
* is not faulty
* performs to an appropriate standard, and
* achieves the requested result when you carry out the service.
Basically if it cant or wont do the job which is grind beans for Espresso then they owe you !

Re: Grind not fine enough
Bloody marketing... Every refresh gives different results ;D (Ya got me Greg)Originally posted by 4A7F686A5A627F606C61690D0 link=1268707990/7#7 date=1268730829Hi AM,
On the Sunbeam site I get on my computer the 0430 *is* recommended for the 6910, so Id definitely be taking the issue up with Sunbeam.
Greg
However I would still say that the retailer etc would say - "Use the pressurised baskets.. "
I mean at $89 it is less than a KG100 and even that will not do a EM6910 after modifications if using un-pressurised baskets..
An on page 8 of the EM0480 it indicates the finest settings for "Fully Automatic Coffee Centres"
So while we may have issues with marketing and Sunbeam; has any one bothered to see what the others say as to their blade grinders.. Yep suitable for espresso machines..
Lets not support IDIOCRACY and bring some common sense back to the fold.
1: An EM0450 or Em0480 is the base grinder for an EM6910 if using un-pressurised baskets..
2: Any lower end grinder will not work regardless of marketing and spin doctors... "if using un-pressurised baskets"
3: If using pressurised baskets any old grinder will do.

Im just hoping that if MAM decides to take it up with Sunbeam shell get a solution or maybe a boost up to a (probably) suitable 0480.
Greg
But it is good to be corrected.. It again shows how easy Assumptions can put ya in a corner.. :-[
