At that price you might have meant the 0450 (same internals).Originally posted by 3B203F28257178490 link=1270911257/5#5 date=1271021124If on a budget, consider the sunbeam cafe series 0480. These can be had for around $154.

Hi Pantagreul,Originally posted by 2736392336302522323B570 link=1270911257/0#0 date=1270911257It can be BREVILLE BCG450 or DELONGHI KG59.
Or, I can settle for a blade grinder, like DELONGHI KG39.
I have used the Breville BC450 and it wont grind fine enough for espresso. Even if you do the mod that some people have.
I have also used a KG 59 as well. It is even worse for espresso. Cant comment on the last one though.
I would recommend look for a second hand semi-commercial/commercial grinder for sale somewhere. The price range for this could vary between 200-400 depending on the grinder and its condition. But they do last for years and years.
Or option two you could buy a SB 0480 which seems to be a good entry level grinder.
Save yourself the money from upgrading from a blade grinder which will be sooner then you think.
Anyway, hope that helps and good luck.
Anu.

Re: Budget grinders, advice please
Hi and welcome,
as has been mentioned above the none of the grinders you are looking at are really up to espresso grinding so if you are buying them to soon buy an espresso machine of some sort you would be wasting your money to some degree. Also repeating never buy a blade based "grinder" as they are not consistant in anyway so you get dust and chunks of coffee.
Slightly different sugguestion is to look at buying a good quality hand grinder. They are generally priced between the blade types and the Breville/Delonghi types. Lots of benifits if you are ever travelling then you can easily take them with you and the grind is a lot better than anything under the Rancilio Rocky with the good ones.
A couple of good ones to look at are Kyocera and Hario, both available from some of this sites sponsors and they will happily post to you. Both are ceramic burr types and will grind finer than needed for espresso machines. If you are staying with your Moka pot for a while then you could look at the Zassenhaus or similar older hand grinders, some of these will struggle to grind for Espresso so you will need to check if thats want you want from it.

Re: Budget grinders, advice please
The choice of grinder depends on the type of machine and how far (to what level) you are ever going to upgrade the coffee machine.
You mention you will be upgrading, but also mention a tight budget.
Sorry but the grinders you mentioned are in my opinion not worth the money you spend on them. This is not said from the narrow point of view of grind quality only, but in my looking at those models "in toto" also with regard to operation and serviceability of them over time. When they eventually fail and you have to find a good replacement, you have spent money twice...........
In which case my advice is that there is no substitute for the Iberital Challenge which is far in excess of the quality of grinder needed for a moka pot, and is just just just just just (in my realistic & honest opinion) adequate (as in absolutely lowest level grinder) for a quality semi commercial machine for those people on the tightest of budgets.
Careful...I realise the Iberital is "expensive" for type of use you mention (while it is "cheap" for other type of use I mentioned). Everything is relative, but for you this is a great grinder, while the ones you mentioned are.......leave it up to you to think of a reply.
Good luck,
Attilio

Welcome...Originally posted by 12030C1603051017070E620 link=1270911257/0#0 date=1270911257Hi
New to the forums, and to the subject in general.
Currently Im using Moka pot for making coffee, I will upgrade to espresso machine in the not so far future, but this is not the issue for today.
I consider a grinder purchase. Since Im limited both by tight budget and by the options available in my country, I have the following three options:
It can be BREVILLE BCG450 or DELONGHI KG59.
Or, I can settle for a blade grinder, like DELONGHI KG39.
Currently I use coffee from boxed coffee, so I guess even blade grinder will be an upgrade. The question is then if one of the two will be good enough later for espresso as well.
Any advice will be appreciated
Say no to the blade grinder... Do not be tempted... They have uses, but not for coffee.
So what country as that may well limit what advice due to availability of said models.
Have used the KG 100 and with some minor tweaking would be the better of the Delonghi units.
Have not seen / tried the Breville but it looks better on paper. Dont know if the claim as to;
"Precise grind setting allows you to select the ideal coffee grind to suit your tastes. From a coarse style for grinding spices right through to the finest Turkish coffee"
Would actually be 100% on the money..
If you use the search function on CS it does find a number of posts on the BCG450..
Here is one for eg. http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1263971255/0#0
Sorry I cant offer any more.
