Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
I agree with Mal about the screwdriver. I nearly did the same thing with one of my screws and changed to a better screwdriver that fitted the slot perfectly (a bit thicker I think) and thats the only I use everytime. Also make sure all the coffee grounds are scraped out the head with a pin or something similar or youll never get the screwdriver in far enough.
Is it a slot or cross head?
Also that thread about the special tool called an ezyout is here... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1273833995
Ive never used them but they might do the job as a last resort.
You could also post up a piccy so that we can see the damage... Might help......

One other suggestion - you can use a hard abrasive to increase the grip on the screw. This is very effective, but it does chew the screwdriver a bit. Medium valve grinding paste is what I use, but you can get purpose made tubes of goop.
If you have access to powdered abrasives you can just mix with toothpaste or something like that. Youd be amazed at how much it helps stop the driver camming out.

Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
Welcome "quickling".... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
What Lacehim mentions re: the shaft nut that secures the lower burr-plate carrier, may also apply to the screws securing the burr-plate itself. That is, depending on the normal rotation of the Rotor, both the Main Nut and the Screws could be opposite to what you would normally expect, i.e. Clockwise to Loosen and Anti-Clockwise to Tighten.
You really do need to make sure that your screwdriver tips are in good condition too. Any signs of wear on the tip will probably cause the tip to jump out of the screw and chew the metal. Maybe invest in a couple of new, good quality screwdrivers before attempting anything further....

Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
Are you trying to remove the burr with the bottom carrier still in the grinder? If so it might be better to remove the bottom burr carrier to get better access seeing as you are having issues with that screw.
Its pretty easy, just use a socket set to undo the nut in the middle, to prevent it spinning you can use a screwdriver or bit of wooden dowel pushed up the chute that the grinds come out of, which braces against the wings on the bottom burr. You might have to remove the doser to do this.
The direction you turn the nut is dependant on the direction of the burrs.
There are also special tools that you can use to remove stuborn screws. I remember Andy & AM talking about this in a thread about a broken thermostat.
Good luck and I would buy quality stainless steel screws to replace the stuffed one.

Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
Sadly pliers cannot be used
Okay, I will avoid drilling.
The screw seems to be made of very soft metal, I could try making a new slot for the screw driver using a hard metal knife...
Did not think of WD-40, is that safe to use in grinders? :P

Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
What ever you do dont use an impact driver on the bottom burr. If you end up knocking the bottom burr out of alignment your grinder will no longer grind evenly.

Re: Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
Ah yes, happens many a time...
Can you get a pair of pliers onto the top of the screw or is it recessed?
Will a blade screwdriver give you some pruchase on the screw head and allow you to get it out?
It might need a spray with some CRC or WD40 if its bound up.
If none of that works, you might be able to cut a new slot in the top with a dremel or it might come to drilling it out.

Disaster removing bottom burr in Bezzera BB105
I have a Bezzera BB105 grinder and I was trying to remove the burrs to clean them. Top burrs, no problem, got all the gunk out. Bottom burr, Ive damaged one of the heads of the screws and now my screwdriver wont grip anymore!
So Ive tried looking up various solutions on what you do when this happens to screws, but was wondering, does anyone have any advice on what to do, or what NOT to do in this situation
Also I wanted to take out the collar where the bit with the top burr screws in, so to clean the threads better. I found a part diagram here: http://bezzera.it/pdf/BB003_GB.pdf but if I am reading it correctly I need to dismantle the whole body and remove it from the bottom of the grinder?
Any, TIA for your tips/advice
