  • Cleaned mazzer - question about grease

    Hi all

Cleaned my Mazzer mini for the first time this weekend - when I remove the top burr carrier I noticed there was a white lubricant, Im guessing some food safe grease in the thread.

Would it be worth purchasing some of this and making sure its used each time or not? If so what is the product and where can I purchase from?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Re: Cleaned mazzer - question about grease

I always re-assemble mine without grease, i dont like the idea of grease attracting coffee grinds and turning into a grinding paste.Just give the threads a good brush out and ensure theyre clean.I could be wrong though and would like to hear other opinions

Re: Cleaned mazzer - question about grease

I tried some of the Dow 111 food grade silicone grease and found it wholly unsatisfactory. After cleaning the threads I use a small coating of high quality, white lithium grease on the threads of the burr carrier. I avoid the first threads so none gets into the coffee. IMO, you definitely do want to use some sort of lubricant, even if it is a bit of petroleum jelly.

Actually guys, best stuff to use is Powdered Graphite, as used by Locksmiths to lubricate the innards of all forms of locking devices including Safe Locking Mechanisms. Also used quite a bit in firearms and reloading gear too.... 8-)

Should be easily obtainable from most hardware stores or a local Locksmith....

Last time I did the Mazzer I used the shavings from a graphite pencil core
Mostly on the adjusting collar surfaces

Great - thanks for the responses all.

Will visit a hardware store on the weekend and pick some up.
