  • What grinder is this?

Some time back, following an internet newsgroup lead, I ordered a small domestic burr-mill grinder direct from a Starbucks branch in Sydney; cost about $80.
It seems to work well, grinds v. fine when required. It has a small, almost invisible starbucks brand, but the main visible name is Barista.
I was told it was in fact a rebadged de longhi. But when looking at the Cosmorex site listed here, I see a Solis Scala 166 which is totally identical.
So who makes them? Is there a proper name? Just like to know what Im using ......

From what Ive read about the place its the same grinder rebadged for different markets around the world.

    Solis 166, Dualit (UK),
DeLonghi, Starbucks Barista, Bodum (USA, UK),
    Mulino (USA), Maestro (USA).

I bought it locally in Aust as the DeLonghi KG100 (still avail in retailers now for the $150 mark)

I believe that Solis is the OEM, but stand to be corrected.

So for $80 appears you scored a bargain ;D

A bargain for the purchaser in this case yes.....but I am not sure that someone hasnt made a serious mistake...

The shopkeeper price of the Solis 166 derivative (or original) is RRP minus 20% plus freight. The Solis RRP is $189.00, & you can do the maths. Which means the retail price in this instance was way below the reseller / shopkeeper purchase price no matter how you make the calculation.....

If you figure that the shopkeeper sold the grinder for $80.00 at retail (as long as we are taliking Oz dollars) , it doesnt take long to calculate that
      a) the shop concerned not only made no margin/profit but,
      b) the shop concerned actually sold the item for (a lot) less that it cost the shop to buy the item in the first place.

I dont think that anyone including starpucks is in business to knowingly sell stuff without making a profit so....

very well done Anthony, but I wouldnt expect a repeat performance!

      Regardz.
