I have an MD40 - great grind but it is kinda bulky and awkward to use. The grind tends to spill and the doser seems to be poorly matched to my Rancilio S26 double-basket (3.5 clicks would be perfect). I have it set to75 - which seems a perfect grind, though I don't exactly know what 75 is a measure of...

I have one that has not had much love in its life, I am just waiting on some new burrs to really see how it goes. I bought it at acution for $100 otherwise I wouldnt have touched it. My impressions are that has great build quality but the design isnt fantastic. The on/off switch is in a funny position and it has a fairly long path from the burrs to the hopper so you will have a little wastage.

Other than that you should get years of happy service from this little tank.

Is this model no good (as a result nobody owns one) or does is it so good it never breaks down?

I have found some info on other forums saying it might need a bit of teflon tape if it is not working as it should.
Pretty much a Rocky on a bogger suit....If its in acceptable nick, no reason no to go for it...

Rancilio MD40 - any common faults?

    Hello fellow snobs,
I have just managed to pick up a used MD40 for $50 on eBay ;D (I have been getting some bargains of late, I got my Gaggia Baby for $41.00 as well).

Is there anything I should be looking for before firing it up? At the moment I have absolutely no experience with these type of grinders as Ive only had a Kyocera hand grinder up until now. Any tips for grind settings etc?

This is what they look like.
