    guys,

    that thing is actually important!

Without it, because i only add a little bit of beans at a time, my coffee bounces all over the place. Or if i add a lot of beans at once my grind also changes.

Ever since its broken ive been sinkiing at least 1/2 my shots...very inconsistent grind and i am still struggling to get it right.

    Dammit.

    3 Ideas for you

Use a Hacky Sack, you can make your own with rice in a balloon just make it large enough as to cover the lower hopper opening

Or a tennis ball to weigh the beans down and stop them from jumping

Also a click-clack lid works on the rocky grinders

    KK

Can see the value of this in a commercial situation Mal, I wonder how many us home users ever fill the hopper to the level that we can take advantage of this feature? I know I dont, grinding to demand means in my case the beans are not even visible in the hopper.
Probably not many Jon, I never have either....

I just posted the info up there for anyone who may have been curious, thats all....

    Mal.
As they say, all grist for the mill, (no pun intended)

It also helps to manage the height of the column of beans above the grinders intake throat, so as to achieve a consistent grind output - The higher the column, the finer the grind and vice-versa.... 8-)

does the plastic cover thingy serve any function except to protect fingers from the burrs?
On both grinders Ive had it also served (I suspect its main role) as a bounce guard, stops beans and fragments from leaping out of the machine, so just remove it and keep the lid on.

    Not that I recall.

    2) is grinding plastic likely to damage the burrs
    Not likely.

My grinder was behaving strangely today (beans "popcorning" in the hopper) so i decided to empty out the beans to take a look...and I realised that the plastic cover thing that protects the rotors from stray fingers has broken off!.

The plastic attachments are riddled with cracks (from the vibration of grinding....<4kg of beans in its lifetimes) and despite my efforts some of the plastic bits that came off could not be found. I can only presume that they ended up in one of my coffess :-/

    So, two questions

    1) does the plastic cover thingy serve any function except to protect fingers from the burrs?

    2) is grinding plastic likely to damage the burrs (coffee still looks alright...)

    Thanks
Working...
