Re: Upgrade Options at Rancilio Rocky Benchmark...
Hey Skelly,
When testing it with grinds IMHO it works so much better quieter with a full hopper. I was just scooping enough beans for a double but have since switched per the advice of Scotty and I think it definitely has made a noticeable improvement.
As for the timing settings mine consist of setting the single on the least amount of time possible, which i use to clear the chute/old grinds in the morning and then the double for half the time it requires to grind a double (bout 14g) say ... 8 seconds. So I click for a double, tap portafilter twice on bench, and then click for a double again. ATM my timing is spot on and not a granule is wasted 8-)

Re: Upgrade Options at Rancilio Rocky Benchmark...
Old thread, but heres an update anyway.
I went with the Mini-E because local support for any other brand is severely limited in New Zealand. Also, prices are much less different. Had to compromise on space and shineyness
I may chrome it and install the Duranium or SJ burrs once it gets a bit older.
I wont comment on grind quality until i get my machine back from servicing and a stockpile of fresh beans to test with.

Was in the same boat and as suggested went the Eureka Mignon.Originally posted by 130B050C0C19600 link=1274591434/24#24 date=1280728313Re: Im after a Mazzer Mini-e - upgrading from Rocky

Im also considering an upgrade. I think i can sell the rocky for a bit of cash while its still new.(although the plastic spout broke..!)
I went to look at a mazzer mini, but found it to be physically larger than the Rocky. Thats a problem for me.
My wish list is:
- Decent step up in quality from a Rocky
- Doserless
- Finer step grind adjustments than a Rocky
- Chrome or polished steel
- No bigger than a rocky (especially width)
- No electronic display (they look tacky)
Any obvious contenders??
Dont want to spend a fortune..under a grand, ideally.

You could almost be describing the "Eureka Mignon" sKelly, except that in the Mignons case it has a Stepless Micrometrical grind adjustment. Check em out here... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1279250965Originally posted by 4159575E5E4B320 link=1274591434/24#24 date=1280728313My wish list is:

The general rule is "the better the grinder the bigger" and the rocky is not a big grinder so you might struggle to meet your criteria.
