    Re: Fine grind quick pour

Jeebus, In comparison I was putting near whole beans through it before. Have it nearly right now. About 22 seconds (using your advice, mountain and two raps). Tastes incredible. Im using the shed shandy which you gave me with the machine so its fairly fresh (and delicious).

Hi all, my M4D just arrived (cheers Chris). It looks lovely and is super fast but even after overdosing the double basket (double with a single on top and the basket is overflowing to the point coffee is being pushed out of the basket onto the bench) and giving it a serious tamp (near full strength through 180 degrees) water is still shooting through the grind at a rate of knots (pulling 60 mls in 12 seconds). The grinder is on the finest setting (it looks more like cocoa powder than coffee) and still pulling shots at this speed.

I had the opposite problem with the Sunbeam, even with a soft tamp if I had overdosed a coarse dose it was dripping out and pulling 60 mls in 45 seconds (I ended up getting it right by slightly underdosing and light tamp) .

The coffee tastes noticeably better, but Im wondering what I can do to slow the process down. Do I tamp even harder? Go coarser (despite this making it likely the water goes through faster so it looks better)?, put a single in the basket tamp and put the double on top and tamp again?

I guess I can go trial and error but Im thinking someone with more experience is likely to point me in a better direction than me trying 40 things, running out of beans and still being no closer.
    Hi Quom,

Its not possible for the grinder to be on the finest setting as that would have the burrs jammed against each other. The M4D could grind to turkish if you wanted to.

Remove the screw in the collar used to attach the hopper and you will be able to adjust as required.

Make a mountain and rap off twice firmly and that will be a good dose for your machine. Adjust grind as required and then play with the time to give you the pour you want.

The only other influence/s on pour will be coffee type and freshness, the roast, your technique, temperature and humidity. Pretty simple, no?  :-?

    Cheers

    Chris
