These dosers are pretty good. Im quite happy with the grounds distribution and fluffy quality. Not too much mess from this grinder. The inside sweeps pretty clean, like you said.

I find the grinder works well enough as is. Im not sure Id want to go doserless. The main mod Id consider is to fill the void above the top grinding burr, which traps alot of beans. I made a temporary funnel that feeds in from the bean hopper throat into the hole in the top burr. Ill lathe up a plastic insert some time in the future when I find some time.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

not sure if i should keep the doser or not...seems to distributes the grounds nicely...no mess...no fuss.

the doser is excellent quality too....adjustable from 5 to 9grams per pull of the doser, and the vanes clean really well

Any doser grinder can be made into a doserless one simply by removing all the internal bits in the doser and using some alum roof flashing to make a funnel that feeds all the grounds out the opening in the bottom of the doser and into the waiting portafilter. Cheap, easy, and with a little tweaking very efficient.

Be sure to clean the flashing with a good oil/grease cutting detergent and a soft sponge to remove any manufacturing residue before cutting and installing it.

    Re: La Cimbali repairer?

i stuffed up the brass threads on the carrier....only a bit of damage...not enough to affect it, seeing as the burr carrier isnt under much load.

i was about 2 seconds away from designing a tool and having it manufactured specifically to take out the stuck burr carrier....until i found out coffex already had one! niec guys at coffex, i was going to buy a grinds catching tray, because my cadet was missing one...it was like $28 new...but he threw me a 2nd hand one for nix.... ;D

i think i wouldve had fun designing the tool...coz im a mech eng student....we learn to make things and draw them up accurately so a machine shop can produce it for us

the reason why i was in all this mess in the first place was to clean it....mission acomplished! man..there was so much baked in crud in there it wasnt funny...i had to literally chisel the stuff off with a flathead screwdriver and vacuum it out...(this is a 2nd hand grinder by the way). Its not squeeky clean, but clean enough!! the burrs are in pretty decent condition too....so im happy with the grinder i got for next to nix.

    TLC from now on!

....wondering if i can make this cadet grinder doserless :P has anyone seen a doserless cadet before?

    Its definitely a reverse thread.

Be careful, the top burr carrier is brass, but it screws into an aluminium block. You dont want to hurt the Al threads or youll be paying a lot more money....

    Good luck.

Its a great grinder to get working.

Uuummm....Just in case let me ask the obvious. Are you sure youre turning it in the correct direction? On many grinders the top burr assembly is a reverse thread.

    Re: La Cimbali repairer?

Basically the burr carrier is STUCK. Ive tried getting it out with barehands till my hands have almost fallen off. Tried using tools to get it out...even tried getting a hammer and screwdriver...putting the screwdriver in the screw hole and banging away...but this only served to stuff up the internal threading on the burr carrier....

Iev decided, if I need to detroy the burr carrier to get it out, then so be it, as long as the replacement part isnt too expensive...say around $100.

It is a 2nd hand grinder I got for almost nix from my friend who used to own a cafe. was working perfectly till i decided to try take the burrs out...then the stator carrier got stuck

    Re: La Cimbali repairer?

Its a scary thing leaning on expensive precision machined parts hoping theyll give before they break .

Whats the history, have you bought it second hand and this is the first attempt to remove the burr carrier? Can you adjust the grind settings via the worm drive at all, if so it would seem unlikely that its cross threaded, or do you mean you cant remove the retaining nuts? It could just be coffee grounds turned to cement holding it in, its hard to dissolve when you cant get access I remember coffex advising me to just lean harder to remove a stubborn fitting!

I hate to think what a new replacement burr carrier would cost, the hopper lids are over $100 or something equally ridiculous although you may be lucky second hand.

OT I was after a new steam tip for my jnr from coffex and the new price was a crazy $50 or so, after waiting on the phone for ages for them to confirm availability they came back apologising they had no new stock but I could have a second hand one for free, they even posted it up to me in qld all for nix

    good luck

Not wishing to be facetious but these are questions for the la cimbali agent. In australia, thats "Coffex".

    La Cimbali repairer?

Hi, my La Cimbali Cadet top burr carrier seems to be very STUCK. Ive tried even using tools to forcefully unscrew it out but to no avail. I think it might be cross threaded in or something like that....any idea on how to get it out?

If i do destroy the burr carrier in the process of taking it out, does anyone know if I can get a replacement anywhere?

    Regards,

    David
