Thanks guys, Ill give that a whirl. As delivered the Macap is set at 3/6 seconds so nowhere enough. I will try 5/10 and work from there. I don,t know where the starting point was on the micrometric screw... so I,ll just have to work on the grind size using my normal tamp until I get it right...
I tried a few shots with the Izzo tonight but they werent great and I gave up until I have more time. I need to work through everything from the beginning and nail each variable one by one. One observation though... the steam! Holey, moley.... Houston we have lift off!

and c) much quieter! Im having a hard time getting it dialled in however, I havent yet got that table salt grind. (perhaps thats because I dont have any table salt to compare it to!). I notice that the Macap has numbers on the ring under the hopper which give some indication as to where you have set it, where have other Macap owners got theirs? I realise it varies with the bean, weather, how you gold your tongue etc, but I seem to be chasing a whole heap of variables at once and have wasted heaps of my precious harrar >
Too many new toys at once methinks
