Re: Compak K10 heat
Thanks for input.
I adjusted the grind very slightly coarser and since then no issues with warm burrs/chute.
Having previously used a Mazzer Super Jolly , to me there is a huge difference between the grind quality of the SJ and the K10. Using the same beans - the K10 had more crema, different flavours revealed that I have never experienced, much sweeter tasting espresso with a mellow ,welcoming bitterness mixed in there. Just splendid! I was skeptical of a big difference between flat burr vs conical but now I am a believer.
I will definitely be drinking more espresso without milk now. Even with milk my wife and I could taste a difference.

Re: Compak K10 heat
When grinding with beans in the hopper if you do the chute mod I posted on H-B & sweep the chute with each dose Ive found that a 6 gram purge was all that is needed after an idle period.
If you single dose, which works quite well with the K10, you can cut your waste dramatically. I put a shop vac nozzle over the chute exit & run the grinder briefly after an idle period to clear old grinds from the burr chamber. The first dose run through will lose about one gram but after that you will get back all but a couple tenths of a gram.

Re: Compak K10 heat
Just finished doing 14kg+ over a couple of days through my K10 heat NOT a problem especially when compared to the slow Schomer inspired DRM grinders I have that need to run for 18 seconds per double instead of 4.6 with the K10. My 2 DRMs by comparison did light duty this time around and the grinders and grinds were just warm at most while the year before they were tripping the thermal overloads for the same job.
The point he makes about the large retained ground coffee is quite correct and there is a chute mod to help reduce this (not done to mine yet). This ground coffee I purge through if it is left for to long
So for home use chute mod http://www.home-barista.com/grinders...%20chute%20mod figure out how much to purge if left for a while and ignore the heat it wont be a problem. If you dont want the K10 I bid $2

Compak K10 heat
Hi all just replaced my SJ with a Compak K10. I noticed as I was cleaning out the chute and burrs after grinding about 50grams of beans that the burrs and inside of the chute feel warm to touch. Is this normal?
I did stumble across a blog that mentioned the same issue and David explained why but I wonder if this is common and if it poses any significance?:
