Mignon +1, Wait for it to become available and buy the package with the Grinds tray knock box for a total of $600 + CS discount.
    I did, more than impressed.
    Be patient, my friend.

Coffee Craft sell the Wega Mini Instant for $519. Its the same as the K3T I think and that is commonly regarded as the best grinder you can get for that money.

Thanks Mal and Maheel for your help, its greatly appreciated!

I just visited www.espressoitalia.com.au and they said that the mignon is currently out of stock, but they will be getting some within a few weeks =D
Id be surprised if Attilio doesnt have some at Cosmorex  :-? Im sure they sell for a fair price as well- but he probably has no non existent 2nd hand ones...

    Welcome "DScanes".... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

A grinder that represents excellent value and falls within your budget, is the Eureka Mignon. Heres a link to a discussion thread about it.... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1279250965

    Hi DS

in your wants you want little mess

i recently bought a rocky doserless as a gift for someone, i used it for a while to test and clean. I found it messy, it does not have a grinds tray and i found if you held the group handle under the chute any spills would go all over the place including the bench.

the smart grinder seems to be cleaner (another mate has one)

i have no experience with K3T...

Starting to really get into coffee =)

    Hi all!
Now i know a quick search will give a million "what grinder should I buy" question and answers lol, and ive looked at almost all of them, but I know that im new to this whole home barista stuff and am thoroughly enjoying it and know that the grinder is the heart and soul of a great coffee, so I know that this choice is more important then my espresso machine, and that took months haha.
So basically, I have a Saeco Via Venezia that Ive had for a few months now, have a non-pressurised portafilter for it, and am upgrading the panarello to be able to texture milk decently, and I have to say, buying pre-ground" coffee for it, and dosing and tamping properly it makes a coffee as good as the staff at gloria jeans make, turns out im really happy with this machine, I know i will one day upgrade it to probably a lever machine, coz they are damn sexy, but for the next few years atleast im happy
But long story short, its time for me to buy a grinder. When I bought my espresso machine I had my heart set on a rocky doserless, reading up more I wanted a k3Touch, or perhaps a breville smart grinder... Then I wondered about the possability of the pharos manual hand grinder, as I have usually one coffee a day (double shot) 2 on weekends, and sometimes make coffee for family etc so taking time to grind isnt much of an issue.

What im looking for is a grinder that has minimal beans stuck in the chute after grinding so I dont get stale beans, doesnt make a mess everywhere and isnt going to cost me the earth. Im prepared to spend around the $500 mark, but dont see the point in spending much more then that coupled with my saeco VV at the present. I wouldnt be using it for anything but espresso so stepless would probably be better. Bench space is a little bit of an issue, but something im sure I could work around

Advice/suggestions from all you experienced snobbs or sponsors etc would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance, and sorry for posting another "please help me im new" thread  ;D
