Personally Id go for a Compak K10 Fresh with the optional short hopper. It seems to be the most domestic looking of the bunch IMO.

Thanks Mal... your right in respects to the ergonomics and aesthetics of the grinder.. I suppose it would help if it looked nice in the kitchen..

And from what Ive read online, and still being such a novice in regards to coffee. Im sure I wouldnt be able to tell the diff anyway..  :-[

    For what its worth "wonder"....

I dont believe that any of the big conical grinders will produce poor results in the cup. Its more a matter of ergonomics and aesthetics for the end-user. See if you can locate a few different types around town in cafes, etc and then decide which type/make suits your needs best.

By the way, I wouldnt judge the quality of the grinder by the quality of the coffee in the cup, unless you know the proprietors very well and know that they look after their equipment and use great beans. The above is just meant to get a feel for the way different companies design their grinders....

Thanks Mal and Caffeine Junky, I do drink my coffee black most the time, and the better half and most friends have milk... But its more about my tastes than theirs... There happy just to have their coffees made for them

Why I want to upgrade??? I think I need to get all my toys before the better half moves in permanently... Hopefully she will be none the wiser..

And Im finding Im becoming more attuned to my coffee, so exploring the full flavours of the bean is what Im after.. ( Ive also read that a lever machine may do this as well, but thats for another place and time  :-?)

    Oh and because I can...

To get significant improvement you would need to go to a large conical and spend $2K+.
This is valid of course but probably only a worthwhile thing to do if most of your coffee is consumed black. Once you add milk, all the subtleties opened up with the use of a large conical are pretty well lost.

All that aside though, there is an absolute ripper large conical for sale in the 4-Sale section now. A BNZ but with doser. The doser on these is close to perfection though, not like the afterthought that Mazzer grinders pass off as a commercial doser... :

In addition to budget I guess we need to have a few more clues as to why you want to upgrade e.g. fancier looks, less messy or results in the cup.

The way I see it, you have the Mazzer Mini, Macap M4D, Compak K3, etc. at the top of the domestic grinders. You then have bigger grinders such as the Super Jolly, Compak K6/K8, Gino Rossi, etc. designed as commercial grinders and are capable of higher volumes but the quality may not necessarily be better. To get significant improvement you would need to go to a large conical and spend $2K+.

These are significantly larger than your mini and your wife may notice!

Think I need (want) new grinder

    Hi  all,

Ive been using a Mazzer min manual w/doser for the past 6 months. And i love it... but for some reason i think I might need to upgrade... (no idea why  )...

But what might be the next model to upgrade to... Im after a doserless grinder as well.. (again just because I do  : )

Any help would be greatly appreciated. But I will try and go see some in the flesh. Once Ive got a rough idea what Im after..

I think I can change my grinder with out my better half noticing... She would rather drink than make the coffee    :-X

    Thanks all
Working...
