  • Electronic Mazzer vs Manual Mazzer

Hello everyone, just wonderimg if you guys have any experience with both manual and electronic mazzer grinders? Ive managed to have both manual and electronic grinder of the Super Jolly, Im not sure if it is just me but is there any possibility that the electrnic grinder produce coffee with less taste or weaker in some case?

Id doubt it Aslan. Certainly not that I have seen.

Id look for slight variations in your technique.

          Cheers

could it be a possibility that in some cases the grinds are fluffier out of a doserless electronic grinder than its manual (dosered) equivalent?
therefore a full-looking basket with the electronic grinder will have less coffee, therefore faster pour?

Re: Electronic Mazzer vs Manual Mazzer

I think you guys may be right, seems that when i am using the manual i am able to stop halfway and give it a bang a couple of times fill it again, bang it again etc before tamping it.

With the automatic, i can pretty much only hit the side gently in attempt to have the coffee grounds covering the basket as even as possible before tamping it.

What i notice though when using a 21g basket is that the first few seconds pour, it is not a straight line, as in it will curl for a bit if snyone understand what i mean ... N seems the colour gets lighter quicker than whem i am using the manual.

Anyone has a suggestion n a technique when using automatic to ensure even distribution of coffee grounds in the basket and tamping?

One other thing i find it hard or perhaps just not used to it is after adjusting the grinder i need to change the dose timer settings as well, which i am curious if i am gettimg the right dosage every time.

Re: Electronic Mazzer vs Manual Mazzer

isnt the mazzer mini E a timed grind (not weight) so if you change the coarseness you need to change the time ?

                eg fine grind takes longer?

Hi Maheel, you are right, that is why what i am interested to find out from people who have experience with electronic mazzer , if there is any tips when using them, because i think the same technique might not produce the same outcome when applied to both types?

Re: Electronic Mazzer vs Manual Mazzer

With the Mini E,  a significant difference cf doser is the grid over the exit chute. This grid is a very effective de-clumping mechanism, but it causes grinds to be retained. And I suspect the amount retained has more variation for finer grinds.

If your SJ is similar, that may be a factor.

On our mini E, I dose by weight (14 to 16g) and grind per shot. Ive removed the silly guard over the exit chute, and clear out the chute after grinding. This gives very consistent behaviour, makes it easy to adjust extraction time with small grind variations.

That is a good suggestion, i hope it will work better, as really i ended up adjusting the dosage most of the time or the timer i should say instead of the grinding, which kinda creates more inconsistency.

Tried it but unfortunately, it does not work, the first thing happen is the exit chute just spit the coffee grounds all over creating more coffee grounds sticking on the side before coming out and even out to the basket it is spitting all over the place creating quite a mess haha... I guess that option is out.
