Hey Rod! Great mods and pickup on the grinder there...
What kind of results have you got so far?
And Id love to see your Bellman tamper too...zip on over to the manual machine section of the forum and give us a quick review and pic of your results from that machine!
Hmm...dont know you from somewhere else?!? (youll know me...I just go by a different name and started the coffee thread there.)
Hi guys, well finally succumbed to upgradeitis. I picked up this San Remo grinder from Grays online for what I thought was a pretty good price. It had a cracked hopper mentioned on the listing but who needs a big 2-3 kg hopper on the kitchen bench? Certainly not my wife!
This has a 64mm flat burr and they seemed to be in pretty good condition.
As Grays was not far from me, I dropped in and inspected the offerings before the auction closed. There was another one that was definitely inferior than this one that went for more only becuse the hopper was not chipped.
I started off just putting the beans in the neck but it is quite messy doing it that way and there is a big lip there that stops all beans falling into the burrs so you have to brush them in.
I had a small hopper I got from a forum sponser so I decided to make an adapter on my lathe. Took a while to work out how it should look but I included a long neck that drops down into the neck and ends just above the burrs so there is no longer any mess and nothing builds upon the ledge bove the burrs.
The collar just pushes in and is a snug fit.
I have dismantled it and cleaned it after reading on this forum. Next time will be easy as long as I remember the collar has a left hand thread!
Coffee has much improved in comparison to the builtin Lelit combo grinder.
This is the third coffe related lathe project Ive done.
1. Correcty sized tamper for Lelit
2. Tamper for Bellman stovetop that needs a hollow handle (for our caravan).
3. This mod.
I used black HDPE plastic which I always have on hand as I use it for vehicle components I manufacture and sell.
Any tips, pointers or mods to help me use this grinder at home would be much appreciated.
