Considering i spent 1/10th of what theyre asking for that one... maybe not
Yeah, didnt think it would be a viable option. Best bet is to have some aluminium collars turned and Clear Polycarbonate tubing as hoppers.

So this is what its meant to look like?

Short of having something machined up to fit the collar you could alway go macgyver style and use two cut up Orange juice containers. They work well as plastic hoppers on small prototyping injection moulders.

Yeah thats what its supposed to look like. Im after a solution that looks nice... unless theres some high quality OJ containers im unaware of? :P

Or you could buy the one on Grays which comes with hoppers and keep it as a spare! Overkill though...

Okay so turns out the hoppers cost 309$ +gst EACH

what a joke... anyone got any ideas of what i could use to make them? or other hoppers that might be thin enough to that i could modify the collars of?

So far my best idea is 2xcompak k3 hoppers cut down the middle and plastic welded together...

Picked up the grinder today. The first words that come to mind are: Holy Crap!

This is the most serious grinder ive ever seen. And its small too! looking at the press photos it looks huge, but its really actually quite small in the flesh (ive put a PF on top of it in the photo for size reference).

Both grinders are electronically controlled to 0.005sec increments, and the model i have is the GCS which means it can automatically adjust the grind if connected to a della corte coffee machine. This also means that when you adjust the grind manually, you have to do it through the digital menu. I thought this would be a pain but its actually not too bad, the increments are tiny too (took about 15 steps to go from almost there to perfect). Oh and theres two separate chutes that spit the grounds into the one centre chute, meaning that theres no mixing of coffee grounds when switching from one side of the grinder to the other.

The most impressive thing is the speed. An overdosed double is dispensed in under 5seconds. Oh and the retail price is also very impressive; $6050

The downside is that this is not suitable for home use by any stretch of the imagination. When you turn it on, two fans kick on and run constantly, which make a considerable amount of noise when just on standby. Also, for the dosing to work properly the chutes need to be full of coffee, and this thing grinds so damn fast that theres no chance of dosing accurately if you tried to do it manually.

So, i got it for a steal, i may use it for the coffee cart at the weekend markets or i may on sell it, who knows. Im already kinda attached to it though

    That a cool new toy.

Ive not used that one but have used the big brother K30 twin hopper Mahlkoenig (which retails around $5k ) and this looks very similar in design but both coffees exit the same spout on yours.

The knobs (I assume micro mechanical) on the front of yours look like a great improvement over the K30 which you have to turn the hopper (sometimes clunky).

Looking at the picture you posted, I would guess the catch tray will be a little small... the K30 is a bit of a static monster and will form a cloud of grounds between the group handle and spout.  Technique of covering with your hand helps minimise the mess.

The only gotcha I can see with yours is how much you might have to grind-off when changing coffees... that will depend on how much coffee stays in the path.

Look forward to see your review!

Mahlkoenig K60 (Dalla Corte DCII) Twin Grinder

Anyone used or own one of these bad boys? I just bought one because... well actually i dont know why i bought it, i guess because it was a deal

The grinder i got is the dalla corte rebadged version, however it seems all of dalla cortes grinders are just mahlkoenigs.

It seems to be a twin electronic grind on demand grinder. At 3g/sec on fine setting it should do a triple in well under 10s. Its definitely way overkill for use at home but hey, when has that ever stopped anyone on here! :P

Any info or collaboration would be great Ill post back when i get it on tuesday.

Working...
