Has anyone used the Mazzer Robur with electronic dosage. Is it worth the extra coin??

Re: Mazzer Robur
i have used one briefly and whilst the grind quality was fantastic the doser mechanism was hideous, based completely on a timer and doesnt auto adjust with grind adjustments so everytime we had to change the grind it would throw out the automatic dosing by miles. in theory its a good idea but in practice the automatic dosing just doesnt work.

Re: Mazzer Robur
I have a non-E Kony, doser grinder. For me to have a doserless grinder it would have to be exceptional. I like being able to manipulate how fast (or slow) I dose the coffee into the basket. I can see the value of the timer for a doserless, but I like simple tools, and adding a timer and the related electronics is not for me.

There are for to many variables to take everything into account. The cost of the grinder would be massive for the computer controller for the time to be accurately adjusted when changing grind settings.
FWIW I love my Kony E and find it not that difficult to adjust once I got use to it. Less moving parts (doser) means less grinds retention and less cleaning.
Id suggest going to try one for yourself Tricycle, as everyones opinion is different, but yours is the only one relevant. it"s your money

Managing timed grind is really pretty simple. Look in the better cafes and you will see wall to wall Robur-E

And that might be part of the problem.Originally posted by 5E534E4E5559040A053C0 link=1317289104/1#1 date=1317290835i have used one briefly
Sorry but I think that statement is just plain wrong. As per my point above, once you get to know the hardware and beans you will have no issue, well I dont anyway.Originally posted by 5E534E4E5559040A053C0 link=1317289104/1#1 date=1317290835in theory its a good idea but in practice the automatic dosing just doesnt work.
Tricyle, I highly recommend the doserless Mazzers/Macap (these are the ones I can comment on from extensive usage) and would pay the extra over a doser every time.
But everyone is difference, best bet is to pay a visit to one of the sponsors and see for yourself. Perhaps take half a kilo of beans with you so as not to ruin the friendship

Re: Mazzer Robur
I have no problems with my Kony-E. I set the auto timer to dose and do my collapse and then top up with a quick press of the manual button.
5.9 Seconds is the current setting for a double basket.
As for the Robur, Mal hit the nail on the head when he asked what the intended use was.
For a busy commercial situation the Robur would be the go, but the Kony is more than capable for home use/small volume cafe imho.
And so easy to keep clean too.
Of course if it is the status symbol and you have the coin then go for it. ;D

I personally use it both ways.
I think its just a matter of getting use to the machine. Same as any new piece of equipment, you need to adjust your driving style in a different car, so too with a new grinder

Re: Mazzer Robur
I can only concur with with what other Kony-E owners/users have already said... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
When I need to rattle off 8-12 espressos in quick succession (usually Doubles intended for Lattes and what have you), I just fill the Hopper with more than enough beans to do the job and go for it.
With the Timer adjusted to deliver about ½g more than required for the Filter Basket, its a dream to use and very, very consistent. Wouldnt swap my Kony for anything... 8-)
If the Robur-E is intended for commercial use, it will more than deliver on the promise in that arena, after its run-in. These big conicals take a little while to bed-in/run-in the Burrs but after that, sheer joy to use; especially when high turn-over is the name of the game...
Mal.

Re: Mazzer Robur
Ive been looking to upgrade my Macap M4d to a grinder with a real point of difference.
Ive had both the doser and digital Macaps and going down the e-path was definitely the right way to go. Manipulating the single/ double shot times always leaves 3 timing combinations for consistent dosing volume.
Given my preference for e-dosing, what then is the feature that gives that point of difference? Look at the specs. The Robur and Kony spin at 420 rpm and the Major at 1400, the Macap M7 also is slow but pretty much all flat burrs run fast at 12-1400 rpm.
Slow grind speed delivering cool, fluffy grinds equals superior dosing/tamping and better tasting coffee. Try a cheaper grinder that clumps and see how well you can tame a naked pf!
With a choice of at least 3 e-grinders it comes down to the quality of grounds in the basket pre tamping, long term performance, ease of cleaning /maintenance and most definitely, the amount of grounds retained through the grind path. All else, like where the heck will it fit, is secondary!
