  • Looking for a Mazzer Mini

Hi I am looking for a Mazzer Mini grinder. I dont know how much they retail for. I would also be happy for a loved pre owned one. can anyone tell me where I may find one or a place that sells when they upgrade to another grinder.

Re: Looking for a Mazzer Mini

    Hi Tomo,

You can start by looking through the excellent list of sponsors on the left side of the page and find one near you.  Otherwise you can contact all sponsors with a single email by writing to
    sitesponsors@coffeesnobs.com.au

You can pick one up new for around $750

Some sponsors sell refurbished second hand equipment but you may be lucky to get a mini, usually it will be larger ex-cafe equipment.  No harm in asking.

Another thing you can do is place a wanted to buy ad in the Coffee Hardware for Sale section.  Note that you must include a price you are willing to pay or your ad will be removed.  CoffeeSnob members are always looking to upgrade and Mazzer Minis do come up occassionally.  Minis hold their value quite well, particularly if well cared for and only used domestically.

At around $750 new they are certainly an excellent long term investment.

What sort of machine do you have?

Lastly welcome to the forum.  John

      Hi John,
Thanks for the info and the welcome. Domestic user... Sunbeam cafe series EM 6910 ( the one with the twin thermoblock) what ever that means????

After using the machine for almost two years I recently attended a tobys est barista course and found out alot more about coffee and the process.

I have not really shopped around. Ideally the mazzar mini is on my wish list and I thought it would be at least $500 +. Have you any other recommendations or advice re grinders.
      Regards Tomo

Hammer had a similar question http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1315899103

Macap also often gets a mention at this standard.

Re: Looking for a Mazzer Mini

The Compak K3 has a very good following round these parts, and retail at around $450. The Mazzer is built like a tank, but the K3 grinds just as well and being doserless is generally more suited to domestic use.

Second hand Minis are quite rare, as they are grabbed quick snap by cafe staff for home use. Super Jollys are alot more common used, but as John said the Mini Manual is a reasonable deal new, just dont expect better grind performance than the Compak or Macap equivalents.

Re: Looking for a Mazzer Mini

Tomo are you currently using a grinder or buying pre-ground beans?

Rick makes an excellent point, the K3 Touch could save you some $$ for similar performance.

For even greater savings you could consider the Breville BCG800 Smart Grinder.  Not quite up to the same standard but according to reports not that far off.  I believe it would be a great match to the EM6910.

BTW Twin Thermoblocks means there are 2 separate heaters one for heating water to brew coffee and the other, running at a higher temp, to generate steam for milk.

Re: Looking for a Mazzer Mini

not wishing to have newcomers to the site being sent off on tangents looking for stuff that doesnt exist.....

There are a few variants of the K3. None of them sell for "around $450.00", except if a trader is stoopid enough to sell below cost and lose money. Someone is currently selling the basic variant for $500.00. Dont know if that includes freight..... RRPs for the various models would normally run from around $550 to somewhere around $850 ish, all "K3s".

                Hope that helps.

There are other very good home use / semi commercial grinders competing in the same grouping, the real difference between them is in the styling of the bodies that surround the grinding parts because there will be very little difference in the quality of the grinds, especially for any individuals that dont have a palate trained well enough to pick any real differences that there may have been.....which will be the majority of the general public at the level of grinder being discussed.

Goodluck in your search, and if you would like some private advice on the grinders we stock, please do not hesitate to contact the team at CosmoreX Coffee off line.

There seems to be a new K3 variant called the "Push "being sold by another sponsor that retails for $450.00 - maybe this is the one rick_bond is referring to.

Re: Looking for a Mazzer Mini

                    Hi Sniff,

I think Rick may have made an error there in that Attilio is correct on retail price range. A retailer might sell at or under wholesale price to move excess stock or in the hope of packages sales based around an item and Id think this is one of those cases. These type of deals tend to be unsustainable, so Id reckon youd want to jump or miss out

Thats the one I was referring to - seems to be a new variant of the K3 and suggests its the same grinder

Its a different variant with the tall hopper and no timer function. Pretty much blows the Rocky out of the water Id reckon :-?

Thanks Chris I knew there must have been something changed or missing to account for the lower cost.  At this price it should sell very well although its a shame it isnt supplied with a short hopper.
