Had my EM0480 for about 4 years and still using the same grind settings, have found sometimes have to adjust one or two when using different beans or changes in the humidity, did put it back together once wrongly after cleaning and it ground very course on any setting this was my error not the machines, make sure that when you refit the lower section it does pick up the adjustment thread.

People who rubbish this machine wont be able to make coffee even with a 3 grand grinder. I have it matched with a hx machine and with fresh veniziano beans the coffee is so good I doubt any cafe running a mazer could match it. The thing is understanding how it all goes together. Heres some thought for you. If you put me in pablo picasos studio doesnt mean I can paint like a master even with the best equipment. Throw me in mark webbers f1 doesnt mean Ill qualify at the next gp. This machine though its no mazzer its more than capable of making excellent coffee, you just need ti know how ti use it

what can i say? It does its job but later in its life it will start slipping away. My finest setting is nowhere near enough for an espresso now which isnt a problem because it is used for manual coffee mostly and does fine at that.

Had mine a few years now. Have been consistently grinding for espresso at between 2 and 3. If I go to 1 at my normal dose, I choke the Breville.

Have only completely dismantled it two or three times. I dont find a huge amount of grinds that cant be removed with a good firm tap/rock around.

Have had my EM0480 for about a year, grind settings have been 10, 11 and 12 depending on beans, age and conditions. I have not experienced the need to go finer. Mine does block regularly (even after cleaning) and needs a rock around to get the grinds out. Needs cleaning out often - I do weekly. Have had some great tasting coffee.

Re: Sunbeam EM0480 - Dont waster your time.

We had an EM0480 which we paired with a Silvia, though it only lasted about 12 months.

The results were okay at first, though eventually we found we couldnt get a decent grind even on the lowest setting. After opening up the grinding area, we saw that 2 of the 3 little plastic flaps (that I suppose are there to control the flow of beans into the burrs) had snapped off and were loose. To top it off the pieces were mildly ground down = we had been getting plastic in our shots.

After that we sprung for a Rocky, which has been better (and quieter) than the Sunbeam ever was.

I guess you get what you pay for.
