  • Sub-400 dollar grinder options - espresso grind wanted

    Hey all,

This a first-time post so I am sure this has been discussed umpteen million times, but Im wanting to get hold of a sub-$400 grinder than will give me espresso quality grind. I currently own a Saeco Via Venezia but the Cuisinart grinder I received as a gift for Christmas simply wont give me the grind I need. Ive depressurized the filter for the machine and Ive been tamping quite hard but alas its just no use.

What grinder options are available for less than 400 dollars and are they likely to give me the grind I require?

    Hope someone can help.

    Best,

    Cam

    Hi Cam and welcome...

My recommendation would be to sit on your hands and wait for a few weeks until new stocks of the Compak K3P arrive. Its head and shoulders above <$400 grinders and shouldnt cost too much more. It will also be good enough if/when you take the next step in espresso machines.

Below $400 you might pick up something 2nd hand and good.

      Hi Cam

About a month ago I picked up a Baratza Preciso for $356. Seems to be right in your price range. It gives a good consistant grind and while it is stepped, it has Macro and Micro adjustments that allowed me to dial in just the right espresso grind.

The timer lever on the side is a bit flimsy and not of much practical use but, since I dont need it, its not an issue. It also has a PF holder but I dont use that either, I just take the bin out and hold the PF under the grinder outlet.

You could spend more if you want a doser facility or infinate adjustability, but if you dont then consider the Preciso.

      Cheers Chris

        Thanks Chris,

Im looking at some reviews as I write this response and I have to admit it does look very good. How has the quality been for you so far? Does it in anyways feel cheap while using it?
