Re: Super Jolly not grinding fine

Hmm if the threads were dirty would I still be unable to screw in the the top burr carrier without the burr in place?

If I take the upper burr out and then screw in the collar I can get it down so that no thread can be seen? Thats why I was thinking maybe it was the springs? I might try taking the springs out tomorrow after I have given it another good clean and put some of the suggested lube on it and see if that makes any difference.

Cheers for the help so far guys.

More likely than not, the thread of the upper burr carrier or grinder body are fouled with grinds and this is leading to an inability to wind the top burr down sufficiently.

Clean up and then use some dry teflon lube or similar on the top burr carrier (collar). If the grinder is empty, its normal that you would hear faint touching of metal on metal at espresso grind. This is normal and does not cause damage to the burr edges.

    Good luck

    Chris

Yeah Ive removed that screw so that isnt the problem.... And yeah Ive tried adjusting it with no beans in it and it still wont go any finer! Its as though the springs are fully compressed or something?
But did you remove the entire upper burr assembly and clear all the built up oils, grounds, and other debris out of the threads (Both the male and female sets.) and the rest of the grinding chamber? You will very likely have to use a metal bristle brush, toothpick, or even a dental pick to completely clean the threads.

As unlikely as it is that the springs are the problem once youve cleaned everything out if the problem is still there its easy enough to tell if its because of the springs. Simply remove them and screw the upper burr assembly back on and see if you can grind finer.

Where can I get new springs from to see if that is the problem?

Might be worth checking to see if theres any screw thats stopping you from going finer.
Barring that being the problem remove the top burr assembly and clean all the threads. Also if you arent already doing so remember to adjust the grind only when the grinder is running or with no beans in it.

Theres a screw on the collar of my Mazzer Mini that prevents the you from going past a certain set point.

Might be worth checking to see if theres any screw thats stopping you from going finer.

    Super Jolly not grinding fine

    Hey!

I picked up a second hand super jolly in really good condition yesterday but this morning when I went to make my morning coffee with it, I found that I can only screw the adjustment down so far that the burrs arent touching and there are still 2 threads visible on it.

What things can I try so that I can get the grind setting finer. At the moment my EM0480 can grind finer! I have pulled the top burr off and cleaned all around the thread, etc. but still no improvement.

Any details would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Damo
