Re: New Mazzer Kony E quick questions

One other thing Im wondering is if Ive got an 18g VST basket should I be aiming to put 18g of ground coffee into it. Its just that there doesnt seem to be enough coffee in the basket at 18g it would be more like 22g to were I used to fill it by site?

I pulled a few quite drinkable shots tonight for some guests and myself there is distinct difference in the way the pour happens to the mazzer mini e. It seemed to extract from all areas in the puck without flowing faster on one side or the other.

I can deffinately see the potential.

Thanks alot Chris (Talk Coffee) for helping me to choose two brillant pieces of kit I have never liked making coffee so much than I am now. The duetto is a dream to work with once plumbed in and the drain attached, thanks for the confidence you gave me to go for this over the Evoluzione.

The Kony Im sure will come into its own soon as I hone my skills a bit more. It was great dealing with you. I would highly recommend anyone to get in touch with you if in the market for anything coffee.

Thanks for the responses. Ive been enjoying setting up the grinder but I went through so much coffee trying to get it close that Ive had to buy some locally and its way different again so hopefully i get it close soon. Ill keep reporting back as i improve.

    Gday Jono,

The setup looks great. Congrats!  8-)

Id suggest you just use it. Set the grind size for your dose and then adjust time until you get the same pour as doing it manually.

You will most likely find you grind circa 8 seconds out of the box and this will gradually come down to more like 6(ish) seconds as it beds down. You are unlikely to see massive variation from day to day.

Hope you enjoy it and more importantly, taste the difference!

    Chris

    Nice set up!

    To answer your questions:

2 double doses to purge which is approx 12 seconds for me.

I wouldn’t bother running through a bag of beans because I think that’s a waste. Up to you though – if you’re going to do it, you may as well do right and run at least 5kgs through.

There’s no issues running with a near empty hopper. You’ll just have to adjust the timer to suit. The beans will popcorn around a bit so you may find that you will be using the timer in a way that wasn’t intended.

FWIW, I always run it with somewhere between 100 and 250grams of beans. My beans are always fresh and never more than 2 weeks old. Regardless of what people say, I can’t tell the difference in taste between beans that are stored in an airtight bag vs the hopper.

New Mazzer Kony E quick questions

Just got a new black Kony E from Chris at Talk Coffee. I love the look of it next to the Alex Duetto.

I just have a few questions:

What is the time most of you run your kony for to clean out the old grinds each time?

When it comes to the run in of these grinders what have most people experienced? Should I try and get a batch of coffee just to put through it or is ok to drink the coffees almost straight away?

Also is it a problem with these grinders not having much coffee in the hopper as I normally grind on demand?

Any feedback will be apprieciated thanks

    Jono
