My Climax C60 turned up this morning, I have completely stripped it and will clean / relubricate everything as it goes back together.
It's an FJ similar to the one above but it has replaceable flat burrs, alas the older model with two fixing screws and they are quite worn. Other than that everything seems to be in good nick.
I have asked Climax whether the new 3 screw "upgrade" burrs are available for this model. The upgrade burrs appear to be aluminium plates with Anfim 75mm flat burrs mounted on them.
One thing I noticed on disassembly is that the fitment between the feed screw and the section of the grind head through which it passes is fairly poor, there were a lot of bean fragments behind the feedscrew. I'm going to see if I can sleeve this with HDPE to alleviate the problem.
Seems to me that with a slower motor and better adjustment this thing could be a half decent grinder.
The thread on the adjuster looks like M10 fine which is a common size on bicycles (rear derailleur mount) so I have the appropriate taps. I might try making a larger adjustment mechanism in brass and see if that allows finer adjustment.

These can be found at Link removed as per Site Posting Policy Andy's seem to be the second model and the one of the recent models G, H, J, K.
I note that the web page says spares are available for models G to L (L and LS are the current models).
It also says cutter upgrades are available for C, D, F models.
I am not sure but suspect the DF and FJ are the models with the cast ghost burrs (certainly the FJ is) and am not sure cutter upgrades are available. There is no pic of D model and the FJ model is significantly different to the F model.

Oops, my turn for a long lag apology 338 - not ignoring you, it just got buried.
Both grinders are from the very early days of CoffeeSnobs and were stolen in The Great Snobbery Robbery of 2007
https://coffeesnobs.com.au/forum/new...nough-to-steal
They were used to grind fresh roasted orders until they went on a walk.
Then about 12 years later Paula spotted them in a local auction listing

Funny how karma comes around to sorting everything out eventually. Police tell us the original drug stuffed thief died and his step-father found them in the shed and tried to sell them. No charges were laid as dead people don't often turn-up to court. They are now Snobbery history and sit around here getting in the way but I love them just the same
I'm pretty sure Ted2013 that my one on the right would have had a cloth covered power cord originally, the design seems too old for a PVC one.
...and I agree, I think in the timeline, your's would sit in the middle of these two.
What's your serial number, they might all be sequential?

Andy My apologies for not picking up your post earlier. Believe the one on the right on the gold stand (model DF?) seems to have the same innards as mine and probably earlier. Probably updated for safety and cosmetic reasons seeing it is used by customers in a retail grocery shop.

338, I remember them too and that is the main reason I bought it. I really did not need another espresso grinder. Sad to see the way it had been knocked about. Bit cheeky though about how they put "espresso" on the dial and almost certainly why they no longer use ghost burrs on their shop grinders. Very similar to units sold in the US under the Bunn or Grindmaster brand in the past.

Tried another espresso this morning. With the grinder adjusted as fine as I could get it without the burrs touching and packing the basket with 2 extra gms it makes a just acceptable espresso. However from what I have read and the uniform grind coming out of it sure it will be good for filter coffee.
Here is a pic with a quick patch up of the sign using a bit of loose perspex I had lying around and a bit of work with the ink jet printer and some supaglue. I glued the sign on the back of the new perspex.

Leroy, from earlier posts on this thread I gather Climax (Victor?) can mod the grinder at substantial cost >$500. However in my case think it better to leave it as is. I have tested it out. It works great and seems to give a nice fairly uniform grind but too coarse for good espresso. Made a shot this afternoon and definitely too coarse. Have adjusted the burrs using the adjustment screw to the finest possible without the burrs actually touching. Will make another espresso tomorrow and see if it gets into the ball park. Might cheat a bit and put a bit more in the basket than I normally do and see if that slows down the extraction to get a good enough result.
Anyway for the price I paid $60 with buyers premium and given it is in pretty good condition think I will use it as a filter coffee grinder especially when my vietnamese coffee loving friends come visiting.
The only thing I have to restore is the illuminated sign. Has a bit broken off the corner. Should not be too hard. Also it does not use mini fluoro lights as others have described in this thread. This one uses two miniature bayonet incandescent lamps. Will keep a lookout at Aldi next time they sell LED replacements.

Ah I see. I wonder if Climax could supply a new burr carrier as well as burrs? Even if it’s possible it could start getting expensive so probably best to try it as it is and see what it’s capabilities are.Originally posted by Ted2013 View PostLeroy Alas in this case a major operation. What you write is correct for the later grinders but not this one (FJ). If you look at the pics I posted above you will see the outer moving burr and burr carrier are cast as one unit and fixed to the shaft by a pin. The inner burr is screwed to the grinding chamber and could easily have been replaced. In my case I will keep it partly a piece of history and also to do filter coffees. I have other grinders which will do a better espresso though out of curiosity I will try to see how good an espresso I can make with it.
