  • Rocky - Doser or Doserless?

    Hi All

Im buying a Rocky next week and wondered if I could get some feedback on your experiences with the Rocky that you have. I suppose its unlikely that anyone would have had both a doser and a doserless version so I suppose Ill have to shoot for what you have, what you like and what you dont.

    Regards

I own the doser version, but if I had my time again, I would probably go for the doserless.

The doser version requires a modification to make it sweep the coffee out better.

I have done this. It is easy and effective, but for the price you pay for the grinder, something you should not have to do.

If you have a need to do many many coffees in one sitting, then the doser would be a useful thing, but in the main I think just resting the portafilter and going for it would be preferable to me.

We have a Doserless and its brilliant the doser on a Rocky IMHO is pretty much a gimmic. It requires a modification.

Plus....... How often will you actually fill it with coffee and use it as intended?

Plus its one more thing to clean.

The only downside is the doserless is a little messy but its less so if you take off the cradle for the Filter Handle.
      Good choice on grinder tho.

DOSERLESS Rocky is not as messy as you might think and is a good little beastie.

Hope this helps with your choice.

I think that any doserless grinder is good. Any mess problems are quickly cured by getting a wet, well squeezed out dishlcloth and just leaving it under the grinder to catch any wayward grounds. When youre finished rinse it out under the tap and wipe up around the grinder.

        Covers your tracks quite well.

I finally got my Rocky today - phew! I though Id never get one.

I went to the distributer and picked it up and got home only to find that Ive got the doser version. After waiting this long for it Ive decided that it will do - seems only a minor inconvenience as the way Im using it is almost like the doserless.

What I do is dump a hand full of beans into the hopper, put the basket in the cradle, throw the switch and keep dosing rapidly until I get a full basket.

I do this with a piece of damp paper towel underneath the cradle and get nearly no mess.

Maybe contact the distributor re the doserless model. Maybe they might exchange it for you.

I think Ill stay away from them. I havent been happy with the service that I got from them from the word go.

These are the people that lied to me about the Rocky being in Melbourne when in reality there were none anywhere in Oz.

ill not move it unless i get a complaint. But id encourage them a right of reply

I was told Mocopan had them but my source has lied to me in the past too. So who knows.

Apparently the Silvias and Rockys are in short supply due to people doing a bit of research on the net and finding sites like this. ;D Who tend to talk them up. Which isnt really that neccesary as IMHO they can both stand on thier own reputation.

                        Cheers

They have been in short supply, however, I know of where there are a number of each.

Not sure if I can post who???? Admin?????

I agree with you they can both stand on their own reputation and would certainly enhance any kitchen. Oh, and of course, combined they produce a very good espresso. As good as many machines two or three times the price.

Very often yes, but not at the moment.

I have them in stock right now, have more arriving shortly, and will be pleased to help out if you wish.
