    OK, decision made.

Doser it will be, and Ill be modding the sweeper vanes as soon as I get it.

Looking forward to getting the unit at some stage, now that the decision has been made.

BTW, since finding this forum, my wife thinks I have an obsessive compulsive disorder about coffee as Im always talking about grinders and coffees.  And pointing out to her every grinder we see when we go shopping.  I think shes right!    *eek!*     :-/
Be aware that this doser is not adjustable for drop- i.e you could never let it fill if you had a dinner party and take 2 clicks to fill your basket- as its set to fill a small 14g (more like 12) basket which is supplied as standard on the Silvia.

The only benefit of the doser is to decrease the mess around the grinder IMO....

The doserless is by far the biggest seller- and for good reason...

Re: Rocky - Doser or Doserless?

      Gday Chris,

Yes, it seems that the doser on a Rocky leaves a lot to be desired, compared to other higher end doser units.

Ive been googling for pictures of Rocky Doser, and I noticed that some have a brown colour hopper/doser and others have this light blue colour.

Which ones are better? The light blue tint is supposed to cut down on light which will damage the beans/grind but surely the dark brown one would let less light through?

Are the dark brown ones still avialable for sale as new?

Does anyone have access to a link on the Rocky doser modification?  The links referred to above now seem to be dead.
I have found one at http://www.espressomyespresso.com/
...just hoping that this is the recommended method?

if your using an LM which hold around 20g or even the sunbeam baskets(ive heard they are big 3 clicks and then a quick level off would be perfect?

Re: Rocky - Doser or Doserless?

Lawrence - the Doserless machine is fantastic and not messy if used properly - I just stick a bowl underneath. Barazi told me that the doserless was the seller out of the two when I got mine (and its a bit cheaper too).

I took the PF holder off mine and love the flexibility.

              Cheers

PS. You are OC....you have a Land Rover and an espresso machine!

                ;D ;D ;D

OK, ok, no need to confirm my worst fears. Yes, I do own a Land Rover four wheel drive. :

Ive found the Rocky doser quite useful for grinding a fair amount of grind when making lots of coffees for dinner guests. The doser also tends to break up the clumps and eliminate the static issue with espresso grind.

I have yet to remove the PF forks but its one of those things that I just havent had the chance to do, nor has the electric tape mod for the doser sweeper. Right now, I just lift the lid on the doser and use a brush to cleanly sweep up the chute and the left over grinds when I fill my PF for the last coffee pour for that situation.

My brother-in-law was convinced that a grinder will lift the quality of his espressos after seeing mine in action. So he bought himself a doserless Iberital Challenge grinder, as it has better fine adjustment than the Rockys steps.

Hes happy with his grinder, and me too with my Rancilio.

So all is well on the coffee front.

Now as for the Land Rover, hows yours running?
