Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general questions

    Bighdad,

we have no idea what it might end up costing, particularly because small order / transport will both mean less likelihood of good prices.

The idea was to get something in that a few people seem to want...so, availability is the criterion....rather than cost.

    regardz,
    FC.

Controversial I know, but seems that the Cunill Tranquilo has similar features to the MM Electronic. Price difference vs. performance difference/features? : And I dont just mean the fear of subsequent upgraditis!

        Thanks for any help.

Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general questions

          Cant believe Im reading this!

I was looking for the MM E Mod B about a year ago. I looked everywhere. Saeco, Diamond C (Vic), Canterella Brothers. I sent an email to Mazzer in Italy and spoke on the phone to them. They got me onto Diamond C. No one has it or not to my knowledge.

I cant remember where I got this from but the price is between the doser and the Mod A. Maybe FC

Saeco, well... Have a good experince youll tell a couple of people. Have a bad experience and theyll tell hundreds. Im telling hundreds.

Pinot did his best to help me. I dont know if he can help now?

I am still wanting a Mod B. The reasons still the same. Home use, grind what I need, not as many electronics or parts, can see what I am dosing, with the doser there is as much in the shower head as there is on the counter.

If anyone can help? (Ill try again)

Maybe Im not that crazy after all.

I cant remember my original name. Thats why I decided on Dill this time.

Ive just moved on from a Tranquilo doserless to the Mini E and as you point out there are a lot of similarities. On paper the Tranquilo reads very well and in reality, it works very well
I suppose the reasons for buying the Mini arent quite as tangible as some people deem necessary.

            The Tranquilo:

-Is aesthetically simple. Some say ugly, I say utilitarian.
-Is a little noisey, but it is a grinder.
-Has a slight problem with static.
-Is made from a lighter weight sheet metal.
-Has only the one dose option, albeit one you can adjust.
            -Has stepped grind adjustment.
-Seems to have an enormous space around the burrs. Not really sure if this is a good or bad thing? More space for old coffee to hang around and influence fresh coffee perhaps?
-Can be had for a great price.

            The Mini E:

-Appeals to my sense of industrial cool.
            -Weighs a lot. Cast body.
            -Seems quieter.
-Hasnt got any problems with static.
            -Has stepless grind adjustment.
-Has a few dosing options ie 2 presets and one grind on demand button.
            -Makes less mess.
-Costs 2 to 3 times more that the Tranquilo depending on prices paid.

Im sure there are a lot of technical details Im leaving out, such as burr construction, particle sizing, and motor r.p.m etc.
Both are more than adequate for home espresso. It seems to me that more time, research and care has gone into the design and construction of the Mazzer.

I guess it is a heart vs. wallet decision.

Thanks Stephen. Saw a Tranquilo yesterday, and it reminded me of a Russian microscope I used at University ... it worked, but boy was it nasty to look at.

Have seen the Mazzer Mini, and cant see myself using the doser ...

Mebbe its a Mazzer B for me ...

Hope FC feels better soon, and can help with ordering em ...

So how are we going numbers wise? Are we getting anywhere near being able to talk about an order on mmes.

                cheers KR

Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general questions

A question for those of you in the know?

                  MM E (mod A)

From the pics I have seen the Mod A has the push buttons on the top .... and the on/off switch on the side

                  MM E (mod B)

Where the heck are the ones on the Mod B.... or is it the one thats in between the timer adjustments....???? :-[

I made a widget for my Cunill Tranquillo (Doser Model) that basically deflects the grinds directly down into the chamber and thus I can grind with the doser lid off without getting grinds all over my bench, after about a week of use this has proven to be a very good little idea and being .75mm SSteel it wont rust or corrode (I hope), however the Cunill is still so darn noisy... and thus a quieter grinder is still in the pipeline...At the moment I now have a grinder that is giving me what I want but the MM E is still on the want list

Those of you who have Cunills that want a copy of the widgets plans just let me know and Ill see if I can draw it up for you...

FC From the sounds of things you have at least 5 people wanting the MME mod B... this is sounding good.... Now for the price..... :-[

                  Regards

Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general quest

Thanks everyone for all the replies, sorry I hadnt posted earlier, but I have been tied up with a personal matter and had to make an overseas trip.

I bought a Mini E (type A) last week. Managed to track down 2 stores with Mini Es in stock (totaling about 5 numbers). All appear to be the model A. http://www.coffeecompany.com.au and http://coffeeshack.com.au. There is also a roaster (CoffeeSupreme) whove been ordering MiniEs for both cafe & a few domestic customers. They wil be only getting the next batch towards December at the arse end of the year.

I purchased the Mazzer from the Coffee Company in Balaclava (VIC). The owner replied to my query by email 2 weeks ago and said that he some on backorder and would be getting it in a fortnight (to be honest I was sceptical as I had heard this story before). He contacted me as soon as it had arrived and the price I got was a smidgen below rrp ($965). The price quotes I had got for the MIni E were mostly around the $999 mark, but a couple of vendors quoted me $1100. :

In my search for the MiniE, one of the vendors (Diamond C) suggested the Compak K3 Touch grinder (rrp ~$550). Ive taken a screenshot of the PDF with a pic of the doserless and dosered versions.

Im extremely satisfied with my purchase, and after a few days of using it I dont have any buyers remorse. I initially wanted the ModB, due to the lack of a wire on the lid, but since im only a home user, the wear and tear on the exposed control wire should be minimal. Ive found the model B to be in short supply even with overseas vendors.

The grinder is overkill for my current machine (Nemox Fenice) but Im really loving the neatness in dispensation and having the ability to be able to tweak my grind in small increments (my main reason for going with a Mazzer instead of the smaller Rocky). Even though the stainless steel dosing chute/funnel on the Mazzer works a treat, it still doesnt prevent a bit of spillover of coffee onto the work bench . I usually hold up the basket right upto the opening and this seems to help in a small way.

Gee, that Compak grinder looks very nice.
                        Anyone knows anything about it?

I couldnt find any info on the Compak grinder, I think they are Azkoyen products, but could be wrong.
