Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general questions

Got mine from www.coffeecompany.com.au - very good service. None were in stock at the time, but they were soon back in touch and it was delivered right away.

GREAT mahine, and no idea what the hopper comments are some mentioned. It is truly a great unit with no problems. Even my wife - who does not read these kind of sites (!) commented on how much of an upgrade it was

For me it was the type B. My thoughts are:

        1. Can be used one handed.
        2. Mechanism in my mind is more robust e.g. push button spring loaded vs electronic panel
        3. Cleaning the funnel without a wire to contend with

I too have been going back a forth on this, I like the "B" for the one hand operation. But really thinking about how and who will be using the grinder I have decided to stay with the "A" reason being that the Mrs will be making her daily afternoon latte on it and the "A" version is slightly more user friendly. Just push the button on top and fill the portafilter, not that the "B" version is difficult, but I and the Mrs agree that the push button would be easier for her to use.
The only drawback I see on the "A" is the cord on top, but that is mainly an astetics issue.
Both are great grinders, it comes down to your preference on how you want your routine to go.

Keeping in mind that timed dose is very inaccurate with this grinder as its done via analogue means. To get an accurate timed dose, you will need a SJ-E or M4D, both of which use digital timers. Time for Mazzer to upgrade this grinder :

Re: Mazzer MIni  Electr - WTB & general questions

              Hi all,

After owning the Mini-E for more than 12 months thought I would provide a review of it for those interested and a short video to get a hands-on expierence?

              Pros:

              1. Build quality - This thing could be used as a weapon. Very, very solid!

              2. Grind - Due to the top burr construction there is no play in the carrier whilst in use resulting in very even grind and only minor adjustments are needed as the beans age.

              3. Static - The grinds are soft and fluffy with no clumping due to the metal construction of the funnel and anti static mesh in the dose chamber.

              4. Noise - Quite reasonable. Owned a rocky previously and there is a noticeable difference in decibels. When empty this thing runs near silent.

              Cons:

              1. Timer - Most spoken about is the analogue timer. Lets say it setting it can be a bi%^. That said once set is very reliable and through ongoing use manageable. I know have a turn finer on the grinde will probably mean half a notch more on the timer.

              2. Grind adjustment - Both a strong and weak point. The adjustment carrier is very stiff. You can reduce this problem by installing a second adjustment pin but you wont eliminate it entirely and making fine, fine adjustments takes some practice.

              3. Anti-Static mesh - Both strong and weak point. This mesh does a fantastic job of removing clumps that said after about 2 months I would advise those using the grinder to remove the finger guard and get at it with a brush and vacuum cleaner.

              4. Speed - This grinder is a little slow. That said it is say much faster than say a Rocky but for 3 X the price it could be better considering what other brands achieve.

Overall it is a fantastic grinder with classic styling that is built to last. When removing parts for cleaning the quality  proves itself to be more than skin deep and the extractions it produces are right up there.
