Has anyone seen a Mazzer Mini for better than $590 (incl GST)? I know of one place in Sydney offering it for that price.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
nope, Id jump on it while you can. Mine waas $620, and that was the cheapest I could find a few months back.
or, consider checking ebay for a Mazzer Super Jolly, which Ive seen for $530. I was considering this option, but
a) there were none available at the time, and
b) I had a big concern over the size, and whether it would fit in my designated coffee area ... would make the wife grumpy otherwise.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
A Position Statement?
Of Mini Mazzers, and any other pieces of equipment (like silvia and rocky) that are heavily advertised around as being "the best" in their market groupings...
I wonder why some traders feel the need to discount the prices of this equipment to such a great degree below the stipulated RRP?
Seems like a contradiction, to heavily discount the price of the top stuff and bring it down to the level of apparently lower grade stuff.
I wonder when mercedes are going to heavily discount the RRP of their top vito van to me?
Regardz,
FC.

FC:
It is a problem sometimes dealing with coffee snobbies. In some ways they are not good customers. They are highly knowledgeable, highly selective and most of the bastards
are computer literate and use the internet a lot.
They can sniff out a bargain faster than a customs beagle can sniff out drugs.
I dont think coffee equipment sellers will go out of business any time soon though as there is quite a lot of support needed for the equipment and coffee knowledge. I would still buy new equipment from a retailer in my geographical area, where possible anyway.

If you can find a bank thatll give me a $20 note for every $15 I give them, Id appreciate it.
I think youre going to find that items like this - which are not sold in large numbers - are not discounted heavily. You might prefer to pay the right price and be able to look the seller in the eye when you do as well as feeling entitled to after sales service! This isnt a forum for driving down prices of low volume items - but you might get lucky. 8-) If, as you say, you are keen, youll pay $650 and consider that a fair deal.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
Hi there,
Im very new to the site.
Fantastic discussions, blah blah blah.....
Im also in the market for a Mini Mazzer.
Wondering if anyone knows suppliers in MELBOURNE?
Ive tried:
Coffee Company, Balaclava. $690 - No stock
The Beanery, Brighton. $680 - No stock.
Is that post from 11/05 still valid - ie., for under $600 (yeah, good luck.....)
I understand Saeco are the distributors in Aust. Ive e-mailed them but presumably I wont be able purchase it directly from them.
Grateful for any advice.
Thanks.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
The thing is, its normal, even encouraged to try and get the lowest price possible. In so many cultures in the world, its considered normal to haggle the price down to something that the customer is happy to pay, and the seller is happy to recieve.
Us coffee snobs/geeks generally dont work in cafes, dont run cafes, and therefore arent fully educated as to what to expect to pay for a grinder. Or a machine, or whatever. Speaking for myself, when I was first told about the need for a grinder, I baulked at the prospect of spending $120 on what is now considered a grinder that is not even suitable for espresso. So the thought of paying up to $750 (what the mazzer mini was ticketed at when I started shopping) was ludicrous. Because we (home baristas) still tend to think of a grinder as a kitchen appliance (which tends to run along the same train of thought as mixmasters, toasters, blenders etc). Which, in the home situation, it simply is.
And home appliances tend to not last forever (unless theyre built to last and pass on to your grandchildren eg: Kitchenaid Mixer, we just bought a brand new one for about $600, a friend is inheriting an identical one from her grandmother, which the grandmother was given as a wedding present!), and so they cost less.
Just something to bring into consideration when we start talking about prices and discounting etc etc... two different perspectives.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
Not a tax deduction either
Id reckon CSs CGs would be the hardest customers to deal with. We are fussy, and full of theories weve amalgamated from tidbits of information found online. For the most part we are not industry professionals.
Heres the but... the zeal and passion for coffee found in most home baristas is enormous. We want to feel weve gotten the best bang for buck possible. Our coffee equipment is not just a business tool, or the machine that makes coffee, it is our hobby, our preoccupation. So please forgive us our foibles but appreciate our well intentioned passion.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
I agree that these forums are not aimed at driving down and chasing the cheapest prices.
As a relative quality-coffee newbie I too thought that $150 for a grinder was VERY expensive when I started out and if someone told me that I needed to spend about $500 I would have laughed out loud.
Education is the key here I think. Now that I know and understand WHY a $500 or higher grinder is better than a kitchen appliance, I can appreciate paying that much $$$ for one eventually when my upgrade cycle allows.
Also, at the beginning of my coffee journey I would have hunted down the best price and happily bought from evilBay or some other online discounter. And probably would save some nice $$$ doing so.
But having spent time here and getting to know the people and issues of high end cofee equip I can honestly say that I would now happily pay the non-discounted price and buy from a supportive site sponsor when my time comes. Knowing that I will get quality aftersales support, as is proven in the many many posts in these forums from site sponsors such as 2MCM and FC.
Its just not worth the small initial saving in the long run IMHO.

Re: Mini Maz - best price
I hear what youre saying lochness - theres good reason to pay a higher price if you know that after sales service will be top notch.
When I was grinder shopping, all I did was google search phrases like Mazzer Mini Sales Sydney and stuff like that, and basically tracked down anyone in the area selling mazzer minis. Prices ranged from $750 down to $620, all promising that if anything should go wrong, just bring it in and theyll fix it up.
Why pay $750 with great after sales service when I can pay $620 with great after sales service? Thats a $130 saving!
And yeah, I didnt buy from a site sponsor, but I did buy from a reputable dealer, who offered training, let me play with a grinder in the store, and who said if anything should ever go wrong, just bring it straight back and well fix it up for you. Theyre based locally, not likely to close down and leave me stranded any time soon.
It never hurts to shop around.
Similar story: we bought a new car recently. You cant really negotiate the price of a brand new car that hasnt even arrived in the country yet, but you can negotiate extras. Just by shopping around, negotiating, playing offers from dealers off one another, we got free window tinting, alloy wheels at cost price, locking nuts for the alloy wheels at cost price, a dust and pollen filter for $40 instead of $150ish, an extended warranty, free prestige number plates and # plate covers.
Ill say it again: It never hurts to shop around!
What I dont really agree with is using these forums to shop around; I think its best to do the leg work (searching for and contacting the vendors, asking lots of questions) yourself. Im sure that Ive annoyed the company that sold me my grinder and the company that sold me my machine, just by sending people there (from this and other sites) saying How much for a mazzer mini? Oh, mattyj from coffeesnobs said you sold it for $130 less than that...

Re: Mini Maz - best price
Oh ... and come to think of it, someone told me that danes sold me the grinder that cheap because I had coffee there regularly enough to be recognisable, and because someone there thought that I bought an ecm giotto from them.
Oops! Should I go back and give them $130???
Nah
