I realise this will upset the status quo here (the "mazzer is everything, everything else is nothing" brigade)......... so do we now need to start making bumper stickers for espresso grinders?Gotta preserve the pristine condition of my Mazzer :P

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
Update: The grinder is now online.
Im now dialing in the grind setting. Seems the lock for the grind setting lost its spring somewhere. Just took apart a retractable pen and voila! Lock works.
Not bad for zero cost. Looks like this one might be doing the bulk of the grinding duties. Gotta preserve the pristine condition of my Mazzer :P

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
I got it from my boss, who really couldnt be bothered to try to fix it. Seems it had been sitting in the garage for the past few years. Im still trying to get all the coffee cement off of the insides. His coffee supplier has been suggesting that he get a new machine. I wouldnt mind a two group Bezzera...
Im a bit worried about the relay in question. It seems to be rated for 120V, or so it indicates on the top. Nothing looks to be burnt or out of the ordinary. Could it be that the original grinder was meant to be on 120V? The motor is obviously 240V, so maybe the internals were changed when it arrived in Australia, who knows.

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
How is it you people are scoring free +$700 grinders ;D >
:-?
Must have some nice friends. Hard rubbish night at the Cafe ;D ???
My friends/family love me cause they get all my tech hand-me downs, which are often and many as I upgrade gadgets.
Although getting less now, as more of the tech budget is being diverted to coffee ;D
Great score anyway if you can breath new life back into them...

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
I scored a free RR45 a year or two ago aswell
Thing is I thought mine was dead but... no it just needed a magnet. The lid of the doser has a pointy magnet thing, if you place another magnet (decent fridge magnet will do the job) near the hopper lid magnet it will run.
Apologies if this is old news and the grinder still doesnt work, if not give it a try.
Weird but true.

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
I realise this will upset the status quo here (the "mazzer is everything, everything else is nothing" brigade)......
...but this is an excellent grinder.
You dont need to "fashion" anything up for it. If you know what is wrong, ring Saeco & buy the part. You are very fortunate to have obtained this grinder free of charge. They are extremely reliable over lengthy periods of time and it is quite uncharacteristic & rare to fnd one DOA & whats more...for free!
New replacement price would be somewhere in the $800.00s, and even a 15 year old example is not going to perform much different to a new one as long as it has new plates in & is clean & well kept.
Well done!
Regardz,
FC.

Re: Gino Rossi RR45 c. 1998
Opened the grinder up this morning. Started isolating bits of the small circuit board inside the grinder. The auto fill switch is good, the main switch is good, the motor itself is good, get to the relay, and nothing. Looks like Ill have to fashion a board without the relay.
Im relieved it wasnt the motor. While its nice to get something for free because it doesnt work, if you have to fork out a significant amount just to get it into working condition, it defeats the purpose.
