    Re: Best Small Size Grinder

Its a pretty tough form of plastic though (nothing like the SB stuff), I believe it is made from a phenolic resin from something I read elsewhere,

Yeah, the MDF is just too expensive to justify here in Australia. It would be an extravagance to buy one of these and Im surprised that anyone ever does.

      I hope you are being sarcastic ;D ;D ;D ;D

      Obviously you havent priced a mazzer mini lately ;D ;D ;D ;D

The truth is that an Gaggia MDF is smaller than the challenge

Do you have any experience with the Eureka MCI (essentially a doserless and rebadged version of the Nuovo Simonelli MCF)?

It is a small grinder and wondering if it is similar to the NS MDF you mentioned?
Luca was actually referring to the MCF - he got the model name mixed up and I continued with it (its mine that he has played with)

          Re: Best Small Size Grinder

So is there really a consensus here?

Or are there a number to choose from?

          I four major issues,

          Size (being smallest)

          Noise level

          grind quality

          and price.

Is there a small grinder that is awesome in those 4 categories ? (price being lower not higher)

          I still say GO PIES.

            Coastal Coffee...

A consensus on the best grinder (small or otherwise) - NO

What your asking is similar to "Is there a consensus on the best AFL team in Australia".... well there are lots of ways to establish that - each will no doubt give a different answer.... and they will all probably be correct (at least in some peoples eyes).

Basically, just like your football team, you make up your own mind - having sifted through as many "facts" as you can, check them out yourself.... and be happy with your choice....

You like the Pies, I like the WCE..... is either better .... well in our eyes one is - a different one for both of us!

              Re: Best Small Size Grinder

I suppose my challenge is that I inherently see things

              in Black and White!

There has gotta be one that stands out though

              (grinder I mean),

because the footy one is so obvious!!!!

                Rephrase the question then?

                Quiet,

                Small,

                espresso and plunger,

money not really an issue( lets not be silly here?)

though sound and size is !

                  Well,

                  My vote:

Rocky..... stepped so easily adjustable, small steps so easily tracks beans ageing when grinding for espresso, fairly quiet, reliable and not that big.

The smallest entry level espresso grinder would be the Nemox Lux (can be had on special for $210), followed by the Sunbeam EM480 ($180 ish) then the Rancilio Rocky (sub $400) and then the Iberital Challenge, being the tallest (circa $280).

                      Hope this helps!

                          Re: Best Small Size Grinder

okay all those small grinders suggested make one hell of a noise when grinding!

I guess we should throw the Iscaso grinder stocked my Veneziano in to the mix....I pulled some shots with it and Id rate it.

We have the i1 grinder in at the moment, just for kicks. This one has a metal burr carrier and flat burrs, with the same stepless adjustment mechanism. It will be fun to pull some shots with it tomorrow!

                            Cheers,

                            Luca
