Alternatively you could just buy a quality grinder that just doesnt throw to the left.
If youre implying that the mini isnt a quality grinder, I think that thats entirely uncalled for.

I wouldnt take what Metreo said too much to heart. It sounds like a comment designed to provoke a response (which it has).

Seriously, everybody here knows that the Mini is a quality grinder and has the runs on the board (unlike the Aussie One Day side  :-[): end of story. There are other quality grinders out there too and, as you said Luca, they all have shortcomings. Its just like there are no perfect machines.

I took Metreos comment as tongue in cheek.

There are indeed some great doser designs that hardly throw coffee to the left that I have used in the past...but as Luca suggests....its shortcomings are far more severe that the left throw syndrome.

Had a look all through my post and I cant recall mentioning a brand name.

            Even so, it is implied.

              Here are those deflector pictures.

I cant recall the brand of the first grinder, but Hazel has fixed a deflector underneath the hopper using an existing screw (very simple design).

The next two photos show the one I described in my earlier post.
It is held on with the screws on the front of the Mazzer.
My Macap has the same screw positions.

Very interesting. Am thinking about the deflector now too.

                    Thanks.
Just the phone camera (but it is 2MP) with a bit of contrast/brightness/sharpness tweaking.

                      Re: Downgrade/upgrade to Mazzer Mini

Put a deflector on my mini this morning.

There was still some very sharp edges on the piece of sheet metal, so I covered it with tape.

                        The inside of the chute.

You can now hold the PF in the holder and dose without having grinds thrown to the left.

All thanks go to Hazel for the idea, prototypes and allowing me to snap the photos.

nunu - your metal looks a bit thinner than the stuff Hazel used.
If you cant get a smooth edge, go look at Bunnings for the thicker stuff.

I cut it off of an old Mokador tin :P

Its a simple bang-up job, since I dont have access to a large assortment of tools. Its more than functional however.

I think you probably meant "bollocks".... Unless of course it is a bulldog!    ;D
