  • Rocky with doser - trouble filling group handle

I bought a Rocky with doser and a Bezzera 99 - but when you put the group handle under the doser unit to fill, it kinda doesnt fit.

Am I doing something wrong or is there an adjustment that I can make (?how) so that the filter basket lines up better with the doser?

At the moment I am making quite a mess!!!

    Gday Pepperina,

First up ...Welcome to CoffeeSnobs [smiley=thumbsup.gif].

Im pretty sure that with a Rocky Doser, you might have to remove the PortaFilter support (fork) underneath the doser in order to fit some PortaFilters. Not sure how these are secured exactly as my Rocky is a Doserless unit but according to this article, it is probably only held on with a couple of screws so should be easy to remove and thereafter youll have heaps of room. Hope this helps ,

    Mal.
    P.S.
Just an additional thought..... If you really want to be able to use the PF Fork, it may be possible to "shim" the Fork away from the Doser using a suitable thickness of some black plastic and then refix to the Doser (might have to use slightly longer screws depending on how much you need to shim the Fork away). Cheers 8-).

I too had some concern that the Sunbeam EM6910 Portafilter fitting the doser model of the Rancilio Rocky.

Fortunately it clears the PF but doesnt allow you to build up a "mountain" of grind.   As you pull the PF away, the dosers lip scrapes away the top of the mountain....

So I now tend to fill, then tamp lightly then fill again before I finally give it the 15 kilo gorilla tamp.

        Unfortunately tv8,

This methodology can have the potential to introduce other problems into the integrity and consistency of the puck. Far better to tamp only once and is much more likely to engender consistent traits in your methods. Whatever you can do to arrive at this preferred, and simpler, method is by far the best way to go ,

Lawrance - I had this problem when I first purchased by doserless Rocky - So I removed the PF fork holder (no more problems) - from memory im pretty sure it just pulled out with some moderate force.

          Cheers

Pepperina - are your spouts aligned to the back of the PF or the front?
Some PFs are chunkier than others. I have an LM that has a full size double spout on it and it too is a little big for the Rocky doser. It still fits, but I am planning to get a smaller double spout if possible for it to make it a little less chunky.

Perhaps a new spout (coffeeparts) would be helpful?

            Brett.
