  • Mazzer mini tray

The spill tray on my Mini broke a leg and doesnt stay fixed in place any more... :-[

I was quoted NZ$35 for a new one from the people I bought it off. Pretty brutal for what would cost about $2 to make. Any cheaper sources?

Do you have to shoot it now?

It is a crime the prices some suppliers try to charge for things.
I asked about a plastic case the other day for my phone and the guy asked $25.
I told him to put it back in the drawer.

When I got home I looked online and found one for $4-48 delivered.
Much more realistic when considering the price to mould a bit of plastic.

      Hi Matt

I think this is a weakness of the mazzer (one of the few). Mine broke very soon afterward and 2mcm suggested I throw it in a drawer and use something like a large rubber matt instead.

Works a treat and havent looked back!

My Mazzer sits on a tea tray, lined with yoga mat to keep the grinder from sliding around. I also have a tiny piece of non-stick mat under the tray to keep the tray from sliding on the bench due to serious thwacking.

As an added bonus, the tray easily slides in and out from under the cupboards for storage.

A tamper mat sounds like a plan. Or I could hit up the workshop at work and fabricate something stronger...

Mine snapped about a week ago. I have upgraded to a maccas tray, it works well.

they work very well those the edging is high enough not to let grinds slip around

                    Re: Mazzer mini tray

I did inspect it earlier today and noticed that it was starting to crack anyway... so it would have failed eventually.

Time for some sheet metal work methinks...

                      Hmmm,

I seem to remember someone using a commonly available highly polished s/s tray for this.... not sure who it was but a search through the forums might reveal who and what it was,

                      Mal.

Mine broke a while back too, I have put some stick on velcro strip on it to keep it in place. A few grinds get caught up in the velcro, but no big deal. Works for me.

I reckon that the "piattino" is by far the worst aspect of the design of the Mazzer mini. There is no excuse for it not to be a metal platter- like in all grinders from super jolly upwards. Wholesale price is well over $30 which is an absolute ripoff IMHO....

I replaced mine with a tamping mat and I feel its a way superior solution to the problem...
