    Re: Conical burr grinders

The Delonghi and Breville grinders are using the same Burrset. What concerns be is the upper burr carrier being very flimsey and lose.. this would result in a undirable amount of uneven grinds - no matter how fine your get the grind - if you have too many fines, youll notice it in the cup.. and considering the price of them, they are uncompetitive against the superior Sunbeam varient. Also to add, the burrset in the Sunbeam is a tried and true set, used in the Lux, Ibertial Challenge and other higher priced doser/\/doserless grinders...

The difference in quality of grinds from the Sunbeam and the Delonghi (yes I have both of them) are worlds apart.

I have a Sunbeam and so far the grind consistency has been good I only grind for espresso so I dont change the setting very often. Apart from a build up of grind inside around the burrs everything has been fine.
For the $130 I paid for it brand new I am not complaining, if it eventually loosens up or dies I will purchase a Rocky or similiar.......................

Totally agree...the grinder quality makes a huge difference to the coffee taste. Pulling shots from Gaggia Baby and Deluxe yielded only a slight difference in coffees taste but a change of grinder burrs and grinders made a ginormous leap in qulaity in the cup

    Hello Bonkers ,

Hows the Ikon going by the way? As JB and the other guys have recommended in not so many words, go with the best grinder you can afford as this will make a HUGE difference in the cup, and this is where it counts. You wont be sorry ....

    All the best,
    D.

I got the Breville as a freebie too when I bought my Ikon.

So far so good. Ive never had a grinder before so Im not an expert, but it sure beats pre-ground.

Ive read it has the same burr assembly as the Delonghi and that grinder does have problems with play in the upper burr, although there are mods you can do to help with this.

The way I look at it, the Breville is a stop gap until I can save enough money for a better grinder, but I do expect it to last at least 1 year (warranty period). Any time after that will be a bonus.

    Time will tell.

    Re: Conical burr grinders

    Hi

I got a Breville Bararoma grinder thrown in to a purchase last week. It seems to works very well. The seconds timer is very convenient, and it provided consistent grinds for the time I used it. I did think the ground coffee receptacle looked a little flimsy, and is a potential for early retirement. It was clean and consistent. Seems to be good value for money.

    Hope this helps

    Gary

I dont know about the Breville....

But the Delonghi KG100 (AKA Solis 166) stay well away from - unless you want a grinder for plunger coffee - excellent for that - but too much play in the burr assembly for espresso...

I suspect the Sunbeam, whilst having some problems, is the best of that bunch.

Sunbeam if any, is what people will probably tell you.

    Conical burr grinders

    Hi all,

Just a few questions about the cheaper conical burr grinders that are out there. Seems the Sunbeam seems to be the most popular, but there a couple of others that around the same price range.

I would like to get some feedback on the 3 grinders below.

    Cheers in advance,
