    Re: Mazzer Mini Mod Options

Ill add a sweep mod that doesnt require tape. You disassemble the sweeping mechanism, and cut a small strip of takeaway box lid. Insert the strip between the top and bottom bits of the sweeping mechanism, and you have something that sweeps cleanly, yet doesnt need as much replacing as the tape mod.

My mazzer is for sale, but I found a little clear plastic medicine cup ( can buy at chemist) slotted, fits perfectly in bottom of doser. This eliminated any "throwing to the left issues" completely.

Better luck today..... I cut my boys whinnie the poo cup to make a WTD style basket extension. I now just carelessly dose straight in, stir wtih a wooden skewer, tap, level off then tamp - Perfectly even Pours. Dosing ,distributing and tamping now takes me 70 sec.... a bit long but ok for me in the home and worth the result, hopefully Ill get quicker - A big plus with this method is no mess around the grinder!...

I could not resist posting a picture of my new SJ. The proprieter was kind enough to swap me the hopper from a mini.....

Looks like a nice little left hander forming on the right hand window.

              Delish view, delish setup...... deadly.

                Nice view Sink cut.

BTW you need to update your sig line to include the Mazzer.

Ive enjoyed the digression, but finally someone has answered my initial question

So what youre doing is using the plastic from the lid as a spacer between the stars to move them closer to the sweeping surface...any pics by chance?

                  Cheers,

...and thats a cracker of a view!

yeah, the view makes you not mind so much if your espresso is sour, and if the surfs on you dont waste time mucking around with coffee. 8-)..

I have just done the tape mod with electrical tape - it sort of works, but keen to try the takeaway lid. Just not sure how you secure it in place.
I read somwhere somone used velcro. You can get sticky back velcro from bunnings that stick really really well, it is also is plasticky and should last longer than tape.

This is going to sound like some sort of sacrilege, but is it possible to convert a Mazzer Mini with doser to doserless?

Not a silly question at all. There are some whove changed dosered Super Jollys to doserless. If you search the other coffee hang outs theres a pictoral guide somewhere Ive seen in the past.

Google is my friend even threw up this old thread

A few ideas there to pursue...

And theres a truly *ugly* one here

Think Id want to keep the doser though, just in case :

THe main reason I was happy to go for a doser, despite the extra hassel, was the access to brush out the chute between every session, grind change or coffee change. If you do this before dosing you dont waste any coffee.
If you convert to doserless you will probably lose this ability. - unless you come up with something extra clever

                                Re: Mazzer Mini Mod Options

Too true -- for some reason these days most of my double baskets worth of coffee seems to want to stay in the chute! So if I had a doserless that would all be left in the tube, going stale -- not good

Also I dismantled my doser far enough to realise that no way was I going to want to stand there hanging on to the PF while MM munched her way through 18g.

Not a speedy machine, by any measure (well theres always hand grinding, I suppose)

So -- doser goes back together.

But at least I was finally motivated to have a go at the sweeper mod -- except didnt like the idea of tape -- sticky stuff + coffee grounds == :P

So heres my version of the sweeper mod -- little bits of white card cut 26mm x 15mm (shouldve been taller with hindsight, I think, maybe 26mm x 20mm, but hey, this is the 1st attempt)

My plan was to somehow poke these between the upper and lower vanes and hope that they stayed put. At first I couldnt see how I could possibly do this, then realised that if I lay the grinder on its back, and pulled the doser lever, I could stick my bits of card in between the vanes (against the leading edge of the lower vane) as each vane became just visible from underneath (ie, thru the hole that you stick your PF under to collect coffee).

Provided the card is just the right thickness theyll stay put as the vanes sweep over the hole :

Well, one fell out on the 1st pass, so cut another, and squished its edge to make it very slightly fatter. Inserted, turn grinder upright again, flick, flick, flick, nothing falls out, yay!

Removed that idiotically-positioned PF-fork thingy while I was at it -- ought to be just a matter of removing the 2 screws, but no, thatd be way too easy, turns out you actually have to take the *base* off. Grrr.

But its off -- now Ill wait and see if I like it that way...
