Unecessary overuse of the locking pin together with the coffee grinds entering the thread will of course cause threading.
Threading on micrometrical grinders such as Mazzer and Compak is commonly caused by coffee grinds entering the thread and constantly working the coffee grinds through the thread by constant adjustment - causing eventual jamming and threading by compacted coffee grinds.
I am referring to the burr carrier thread - however the locking pin on the K10 will also suffer from this problem - however I have found you dont really need to use the locking pin on any Compak, it will stay in adjustment without the locking pin.
But of course some people cant help but to fiddle - especially when they think they are baristas. ;D
Hey! Im a barista and I like to fiddle with things! Got a problem? :-?
So theres no pin on the newer model at all?! Nice...
Must be something were doing then... Im guessing itd be cleaning the blades.. theres no literature in our system indicating procedure for the task - probably at most stores it just isnt done... thats when grind would get in and damage things I suppose?

Its never been needed - but its been there to satisfy those who think that the slight collar movement effects the grind adjustment. Chris is right on the money its not needed.

Hello im new to coffeesnobs - a quick question about Compak K10 grinders.. the original ones.. is it common to find that the grind adjustment knob on the collar threads itself after a few months of use?
I am from a Gloria Jeans store - almost all of the newer stores now how the K10s and quite a few stores have reported the same problem. Im trying to find out if its something were doing not quite right?
I heard that Compak are revising the design - just interested in some feedback! :-)
I guess the locking screw is failing? Sounds like its being overtightened. Best bet is to refer it back to the supplier IMHO. That said, my previous K10 had one and I didnt feel it was required. Seems Compak agreed as its been deleted from the new WBC.
Sorry for my loser lingo... SHE is talking about the locking pin for the grind adjustment mechanism...
Im Shelley - i love to make coffee for Gloria Jeans at the moment and look after a young store in Boronia -
I like to teach my baristas to set the grind for themselves so they can make excellent coffees each time. They take me up - they are very young, and wonderfully enthusiastic... what ive found is that the Glorias stores which have a strong culture for great coffee (many dont) are finding this problem occuring with their K10s.
our equipment man cant figure it - i was hoping to get another opinion is all.

What do you mean on the collar threads? As in on the burr carrier thread itself?? Please make it clearer as I do not understand what youre trying to ask...unless Im stupid (my brain is fried after a lot of engineering classes today)
Older K10s have a locking pin for the grind adjustment mechanism. The new ones work like mazzers. Just set the grind and thats it...no locking pin.
