    Re: Help me decide - K10 WBC or Robur?

    Hi Theodore

    I believe that Elektra grinders are made by Macap
    And I dont have a problem with Macap build quality

    P.S
    Just had a look at the video and a few reviews
    Yes I would own one

      For mine, their stuff is massively overpriced and underdone in specification...

      3.3k in Australia for a grinder which is matched in spec. by the K10 diamond at half the price....

      Their machines puzzle me as well. Why would you build a 2 litre boiler and then only have 800W of element....Bizarre IMHO...:-?

        OOOps my bad its
        €1680.00 including postage.
        Euros not AU dollars

        K10 or Elektra’s Macap equivalent in your area of the globe would be a more prudent choice

            Theodore

            Elektra should be commended for its design & grinding innovations
            All grounds expelled by exposed chute and motor cooled by fan @ 500rpm

            But like a lot of Elektra products you pay for the finish a lot of that is probably due to a many hours of hand polishing to produce that ultra shine surface

            So the question is do you want a grinder that grinds well
            Or a grinder that grinds well and pay the extra Euros for its style and looks

              Regarding the innovations that Elektra should be commended with:
              *I think that Casadio beat them to the punch in coming up with that chute design with their Instantaneo grinder;
              *Its not apparent to me that this grinder is going to have less coffee left over immediately outside the burrs than any other grinder;
              *Many people had retrofitted fans to their grinders before Elektra did it and I think that Mazzer might also have beaten them to the punch;
              *In any case, Im just not sure that the fan is actually all that useful - Ben and Shaughan at 5 Senses did an experiment where they hacked up an old grinder and put temperature probes all over it, then ground 20 kg of coffee in a row and concluded that the heat doesnt really travel up from the shaft to the coffee;
              *Im pretty sure that the grinder is made by MACAP for Elektra.

              Regarding the fit and finish:
              *Last time that I saw this grinder in the flesh, I thought that the body was made from some sort of plastic;
              *If the grinder is manufactured by MACAP, then youd expect to be able to relate its price back to the other MACAP grinders.

              Im not trying to knock the grinder itself, with which I have little experience and would like to use a bit more, but I think that a bit of scepticism is warranted by the home barista considering ponying up this much cash.

              Cheers,

              Luca

                Well Im going to jump in here and say this......and it may even be a bit late considering when the topic was started.

                In the old days when I used to import Elektra equipment the grinders were rebadged Macap.

                I dont know what they do now.

                But if you want to buy a Macap M7K (high volume cafe conical), I brought half a dozen in in the last container which landed only a month ago.

                Ring me if you wish!

                Regardz,
                Attilio
