I kept hearing about the stepless and/or teflon mod.
I did a search on Coffee snobs and it took me about 2 hours to find/figure out how to do it.
So here is my guide.
Dont attempt this unless you already know how to clean out your Rocky by pulling off the top burr.
The teflon mod will quieten your grinder and give a more consistent grind, as the top burr will have less slack.
The stepless mod will allow for finer adjustment.
Once you have the top burr off wind on some teflon tape (PTFE tape, plumbers tape, thread sealing tape). You can find the tape any any hardware store for about $1. It will be in the plumbing section.
Make sure you wind it on as in the picture below. If you wind it the other way it will come of when you screw the burr back on.

I found that 2 covering winds was about right (2 on the bottom section 2 on the top). You may need more if your grinder is more sloppy, less if it isnt.
The teflon will also help with the stepless process as it adds stiffness to the adjustment.
For the stepless mod get some tubing. I got 6mm water tubing found in the garden section at Bunnings. The pack cost about $4.50.
.
Cut a length that is the same as the distance of the stainless steel that sits behind the hopper bucket.
Cut through the middle down the full length of the tube. If you use a knife be very careful. I found side cutters a better option.

Put it on the stainless steel section.
Place the hopper back on. It should be stiff to move.
Mine wasnt stiff enough so I had to put another bit of tubing on.

Put you Rocky back together.
Put some beans in.
Jam the adjustment switch down with a bit of tubing or whatever will fit.

Start grinding!
Pay close attention to the hopper. If there is enough resistance from the tubing the hopper wont move. If it does you may need more/thicker tubing.
So there it is! A $5 mod for the Rocky.
Enjoy. ;D
