Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
I cut some ridges in the top a semi-disposable plastic cup and inverted it. It just rests on the sweeping arms and covers the middle of the doser.

Curtain rod end.. great idea...
Take the knob in to Spotlight and get a snug fit too...

Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
I used 24mm wide duct tape. Not only does it have stronger adhesive but its thicker (ie stiffer), and the extra width meant I didnt have to screw the adjustment knob so far down to ensure the tape meets the bottom of the doser.Originally posted by jamver link=1231278409/0#2 date=1231448346Nice job Juanjo!
Unfortunately for me, Ive already lost one of the electrical tape fanes, so I might need to investigate something more permanent like that.
How long ago did you do it, and how has it held up over time?
cheers,
James
Now something to cover the adjustment knob to reduce the amount of grounds that will lodge on/on it. Perhaps a curtain rod end??

Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
I have no idea what that was before I use it for the Mazzer..
it has that shape, I just made a hole for the bolt and shape the bottom, to cover is a 52mm camera filter..

Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
So what did you use for the cup mod? And what were you using to cover the cup?

Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
James,
thanks
I went doserless two weeks ago, but before that I had it for about 6 months and it was holding perfect... I took that picture today..
the glue I use was Elmers Rubber Cement.

Re: Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
I did the sweep mod to mine and it was a huge difference, just like you I have no coffee left..
but I use the rubber from the focus of a camera lens and glue..

I guess the rubber is going to wear off before they come lose..

Mazzer Doser Vane Sweeper Mod
So, with the recent discussion of the Masser Doser Spout Mod, I was talking to a friend in Canada about planning to do it. He had recently won an excellent value SJ off eBay and had ordered some replacement burrs and they had only recently arrived. Got to admit, one of the first things I did with my mini was to take off the finger guard!
He beat me to the punch before I could do it, he had removed his finger guard, disabled the automatic doser filler and had done the spout mod and also the vane sweep mod. So I did a bit of searching and found Temes blog (Teme at least used to be quite active over at home-barista.com) and followed some instructions over there.
http://temesblog.blogspot.com/2005/07/mazzer-mod-no3-sweep.html
This one can make quite a big difference to the results post-sweep. There are almost no grounds in the bottom of my doser now which is a good thing.
The only negative I can see is that I will need to replace them every so often, but like Teme says in his blog post, its a completely reversible mod, so even if you dont like it, you can return to factory with very little effort.
Total time for the mod - 10 minutes. Most of that was the fiddly nature of folding tape.
cheers,
JamesTags: None
