Re: Burr Cleaning on a Macap M4
If you perform this easy mod I posted on CoffeeGeek a couple years ago you can remove the entire upper burr assy with the hopper still installed without removing any screws outside of a safety stop screw (if one is used).

Re: Burr Cleaning on a Macap M4
With top carrier off the grinder:
Make sure you do not cross thread the carrier when refitting.
Suggest examining both threads to make sure they have not been cross threaded.
If all is ok carefully thread the top carrier back in, in an anti clockwise direction;
No Beans yet please
Thread the carrier all the way down until the plates touch.
Back off about say....1/2 a turn.
Now place beans in and grind.
If the grind is too coarse AND THERE ARE STILL BEANS/GRINDS IN, start the grinder and adjust to a finer setting with grinder running. Otherwise you jam up the grinder ie cant turn the adjuster because you are packing down against the grinds already in there, and this can also stop the grinder from restarting.
If the grind is too fine, you can back off (clockwise) without starting.
Hope this helps.

Re: Burr Cleaning on a Macap M4
I have cleaned and assembled the grinder but I cannot get back to the original setting and get the grind fine enough. The finest grind is more suitable for plunger coffee!
Are the supposed to be three exposed threads when the upper burr is finger tight? Is this my problem but I cannot thread it down anymore? I have clean and put it together 5 times and still the same result.

thankyou!
very, very easy and my grinds are now back to being their fluffy selves. its amazing how good coffee grounds actually are at grinding coffee!
(could also argue they protect the burrs from wear
)
thx mike, bolb, cksyd also - instructions were in my head while I was doing it.
combined with a nice full Caffeto clean and the coffee is brighter, less of a body-lean and tiger striping on a three-week old blend.
unfortunately, the new milk (pura) has that nasty taste. so back to espresso for the while

Re: Burr Cleaning on a Macap M4
Sounds right to me except i did it by trial and error last weekend.
From memory turn it anticlockwise to remove the top burr.
I found though when putting back together just do it up till the top burr assembly is finger tight and then back it off a touch. I tried to count the rotations and look at the colour differenc of the thread to get it close but was way off.
Finger tight and backing off and then slight adgustments from there made it relatively easy to dial in the grinder.

Re: Burr Cleaning on a Macap M4
Its easy
0. Turn off power AND remove plug from wall.
1. Check item 0 is completed.
2. Remove hopper from top.
3. Remove plastic safely cover from above burs by undoing three small screws.
(dont drop those screws down the side!)
4. The burr will then be visible. Take a note of its position.
Grab it and turn it (I forget what way) an it will unscrew, taking note of
how many times you turned it to unscrew it. Then you can do that many turns
to put it back on and youll be close to the original settings.
PS. This is done from memory.
