dos yours have the locking pin?
My K10 WBC, manufactured May 2008, has no pin for locking the grind adjustment.  In fact, the threaded end cap on the lever isnt there at all, but there is a hole in the end to stick a screwdriver through for the hopper screw.  I left this screw as it came (very loose), and the mini hopper sits in the grinder throat happily...

There was a second faceplate in the hopper box, and I was really pleased when I realized what its for.  If you remove the finger guard/automatic grinder assembly remnant, the cutout on the original faceplate leaves a huge hole on the front of the grinder.  The spare faceplate has a much smaller cutout.

Spare faceplate installed, original faceplate sitting on top for reference.

Yup mine does that as well.

It took awhile for the burrs to break in tho.

Initially, the grind setting drifted quite a lot day to day.

Dont know if anyone else experienced this....

Thats what mine does, but as quoted with the video it looks like the screw only.....off to check :-/

I received my K10 after yet another UPS screw-up on the same shipment...  Quite a monster grinder.  The original hopper (I bought a mini one to use) is about the size of the body of my M4!

The first shot I pulled was pretty much perfect, and I keep being amazed by how easy it is to pull great shots.  No more messing about with stirring up grinds in the basket.

The burrs on my grinder spin like this video.  Im not sure if its just the fastener, or the shaft itself thats not concentric.  Presumably the latter would have destroyed the burrs pretty quickly, and considering the nice grinds Im getting...  Is this normal?

Mostly that were fairly isolated and shipping is over twice as far as canada from europe, so we pay more than double for it.

market pressure also helps - US has big buying power so canada benefits from that, and so does economy of scale re: 30ft shipping containers etc, as linnaen said.

the big thing that puts me off the K10 is that it has multiple grind paths, but only one of them goes via the doser.

Same as for many things - economy of scale. They have an economy just to the south of them with a much bigger buying power than we have anywhere around here. The more the importer can bring in the greater the discount.
Even if Canada has a different importer, the prices will have to be similar to the US, or everyone would be buying from there.

Just take a look on the bay of evil or amazon at almost anything, and you will find it cheaper over there than here.

A bit OT but.....Blooming Canucks (note: Im originally from Alberta/BC  ) and their brand new Rocket GPPs for less than $1900 - sorry plus GST and possibly sales tax depending on province.

OK, I understand that there is roughly a 10% difference in the OZ>CDN/CAD exchange rate at present but what accounts for the rest? Import type tax must be very high in Oz? Someone please explain?

Good luck with your new Compak. Sounds like a great grinder.

PS. Ive reached the conclusion that perhaps you pay a little extra for the luxury of not freezing your ..... s off .

Why order one from the US?!?

Ive only seen the 110v ones on us websites....
I actually live in Canada.  This thread and other info on coffeesnobs was still extremely useful in helping me to make a decision

Thanks for the replies, guys.  I ended up ordering a K10 WBC.  It was supposed to arrive today, but it looks like UPS completely bollocksed up the shipment, so its still in the States :

Does anybody have personal hands on use of the
    Mahlkonig K30 Single Espresso Grinder
No doubt these are excellent grinders too but Im not fussed about the appearance, to be honest... :-/

    Mal.
Hehe. Funny. I have to say that one of the main reasons I bought this grinder was the look (in fact, its customized -black piano color and stainless polished finish-) For me the only grinders that can compete versus the K30 (aesthetically I mean) are Versalab M3 and perhaps the Nino -and Im not sure because it looks giant, at least in the pics-
    LOL....

Vive la difference! Thank God were all different Oton.... ;D
