  • Krups GVX2???

Hi guys, am looking to buy my first grinder to pair with my Gaggia Classic (due to an overwhelming swaying response towards it ), has anyone ever owned the Krups GVX2 grinder? Ive read differing responses to it, many seem to have broken down, some saying the grind isnt fine enough for espresso, some saying it IS fine enough, some saying its too messy (which i wouldnt even consider as a factor lol), but many seem to give it extreme praise! Any thoughts?

Here is a link: http://www.krups.com/All+Products/coffee-grinders/Products/GVX2/GVX2.htm but i usually only read the product reviews as opposed to company reviews.

    Thanks

I would definitely increase your budget a bit, the accepted wisdom is the sunbeam grinders are the minimum you should look at. For mine I would look at a rocky or above and then you will have a machine that will last you years (and give you better results).

Ive had one for a few years.  I didnt have any problems with reliability, mess or with being unable to grind fine enough.

My machine is a similar level Saeco to your machine (although it will be getting replaced/upgraded soonish)

I was never really happy with the grinder though.  It was very inconsistent, for a couple of reasons.  The grind has a mix of course and fine so you would always have a mix of over/underextracted coffee.  The steps in the adjustment were also quite large, one click would make the difference between a 15 second and 35 second pour.

I recently bought a K3 and it is by far worth the expense.  Dont know if that would be too far out of your price range but if it is then something like the Rocky gives pretty similar results to the K3 and they pop up second hand with some regularity.

            Hope that helps,

            Liam

haha... but isnt a mazzer super jolly a blade grinder, which isnt optimal for grinding for espresso (due to grind inconsistency?)? Thats my main concern.

Thanks liamo, Im looking for a secondhand rocky atm, or even a Sunbeam EM0480 if thatl do the trick...

Ah okay,... cos the fellow whos selling one says its a blade grinder, and when i told him i only know of the super jolly burr grinder after doing a good search he said they are flat blades... so out of curiosity, does a super jolly BLADE grinder exist? lol...

That are flat burrs as opposed to conical burrs.

Blades are what you find in spice grinders and lawn mowers (same result).
